Ok I have spent my entire life in Texas and as a Longhorn fan, but I'm coming to LSU next year. It would be great if y'all could tell me everything I need to know about LSU sports. It's exciting just to know I don't have to watch my team choke in big games. Thanks!!
All you need to know is: you don't know what college football is yet. I am very excited for you, because you are in for the experience of your life. As you are about to learn, championships are fun. Enjoy!!!
Welcome to the LSU family. Once a Tiger, always a Tiger, and you'll wonder why you ever wasted your time pulling for the Longhorns. I envy the fun you'll have at football games, now that our team is among the elite. After my freshman year in '88, we endured six long, devastating losing seasons. There was little to cheer for, and still we faithful fans loved our Tigers. The reward is now. Know that football is king at LSU, with baseball in second place. Men's basketball struggles right now, but I won't open up the debate right now as to why that is the case. (We all have our strong opinions, though!) Keep coming to this board, and you should be well-versed in Tiger sports--and check out the other forums on this board, like The Roundtable and Good Eats to learn a bit more about your new hometown of Baton Rouge.
The UT coaching staff has/had some pretty serious Louisiana football ties (at least thru 2003). Mack Brown: You probably knew he was the head coach at Tulane, but he also briefly assisted at LSU (under Curley Hallman or Bill Arnsparger, I believe, as a QB coach. Too lazy to look it up right now). Greg Davis--who, somehow, still pulls a UT paycheck--is also an ex-Tulane head coach and former assistant under Mack at Tulane (I think...again, with the laziness!) Recently "retired" Carl Reese was Defensive Coordinator under Gerry DiNardo at LSU, whose downward spiral can pretty much be pegged when his ego got the best of him and he fired Carl back in 1997. I know that others will tell you much, much more about LSU football, but I thought you might like to know a little about the school you'll no longer be supporting (believe me, you'll be a Purple and Gold-er from now on!) :lsug:  :lsug:  :lsug:  :lsug:  :lsug:
texantiger2, you've made the right choice! I was in the same boat as you several years ago ... living in Texas and a lifelong Longhorn fan, but visiting LSU my senior year changed my mind pretty fast. What made you decide to go to LSU? Plenty of Texans will question your decision, but don't listen to them. LSU is a great school. You're lucky to be coming to LSU when the football team is on a roll, but the great thing about this fan base is that the games are a blast even when the team isn't doing so great. I arrived during the Curly Hallman era ... and I was happier to be a fan of a losing LSU team than I would have been as a fan of a winning Longhorn team. Don't ever miss a home game, and try to go to as many road games as possible. If the friends you make at LSU aren't into football, find new friends. Also, definitely check out some of the other LSU sports. I really regret that I never went to a baseball or basketball game while I was a student.
sorry, you just cannot come in and jump on our bandwagon when the gettin' is good. You are officially a Tulane Weenie until you earn your tiger stripes....that will be granted when you give Smoke the signs from Augie when we meet in the CWS. Until then, you're on a trial membership. Also, you have to know what faux pas, lagniappe and roux mean as well as be able to pronounce them. And lastly, you can never pronounce the consonant in any southern Louisiana last name from Doucet to Leblanc to Hebert. Test Monday. And come prepared.
I'll give you the last two, but faux pas is widely used. Louisiana Lagniappe in Destin makes an outstanding grouper ponchartrain. :thumb: (yeah, I know...a little something extra)
