I havent lived at home for awhile, so when I'm sick or homesick I always crave certain things my mom or granny made. Was curious, since there are a lot of people from all over, what everyone else's comfort foods are... Sick: Cambell's Chicken Noodle Soup Ginger Ale Pasta with butter and pepper Grits Homesick: mom's potato salad granny's seafood gumbo mom's Crawfish Etouffee granny's Grillades and Rice My husband didnt grow up with Cambell's soup when he was sick. When we were married for only 3 weeks I got a stomach flu. He went to the store with the sick food list. Returned to make soup. He presented me with a nice set up on a tray with flowers. Too cute. I looked upon the soup to find a hot gelatinous blob in the bowl. I asked him if he had read the directions...he said no...he didnt know you had to add water to the soup.
:hihi: Too funny. Does he have a saltwater aquarium?? I know how you can get him back. The thing I can more often than not eat when I'm sick is a scrambled egg sandwich. Go figure. I also like soup. I'll cook a big pot and we'll make one meal that day/night and another later in the week but I'll take out a couple of containers worth for a quick meal later. I also put a couple of servings in one or two smaller freezer containers for times of sickness. Our kids will eat that when they are sick.
I don't have a particular food that I like when I'm sick. Typically some bourbon/honey/lemon juice, if it's a flu or sore throat. That's about it, I guess. Plain old comfort food: Mom's beef stew with dumplings Meatloaf Creamed potatoes or potato soup (actually, I do like that when I'm sick.) Jambalaya Mustard, collard, or turnip greens with cornbread
chicken and dumplins anything with rice and good gravy red beans and rice and good cornbread meatloaf sandwich chicken and sausage sauce piquante cheese cake beer
I miss my grandma's cats-head biscuits and her chicken and dumplin's. Moms are pretty good . . . but not like Grandma's.
When I am sick from Mom(mornings): cream of wheat When I am sick(dinner): Homemade Vegatable Soup By the way, to admit my spoildness (not really a word, but I like it) when I am really sick in Orlando, my Mom still sends me an overnight package of her homemade veggie soup! I LOVE MY MOMMY!:hihi:
i can barely tolerate canned chicken noodle any more. after my wrist reconstruction in 03 i pretty much od'ed on it. now when i get sick i want sprite and graham crackers or oyster crackers. i became a connoisseur of graham crackers after this last surgery. i particularly like scooby doo graham bites that are shaped like little doggie biscuits (they have more ginger), but i have to fight my dog off when i eat them. (he thinks oyster crackers are kibbles so i have to fight him for those, too!) when i get depressed, i order pizza. if i want real comfort food, its hard to beat a big bowl of grits with butter. my grandmother used to make fried chicken for me. when i was in high school i was laid up in bed for a week after my horse fell over backwards on top of me, and she made it for me every day for lunch. no one can make it like she did. probably cause no one can put as much love in it as she did!
hmm, if I feel bad in the morning, it's crown, coffee, honey. If it's afternoon, shot of crown. If it's evening, it's 2, maybe 3 shots of crown.
