I don't know that anyone can argue with the article since it basically just quotes statistics. Granted I assume that they are accurate. They sure don't paint a picture of an elite SEC QB, much less one that needs to enter the draft in April

While I believe JR has immense ability, my problem with him has been in two areas.

    1. The Football IQ that Calco describes perfectly.
    2. Lack of touch on short passes.

Not sure that CLM will ever win us a NC, but I don't blame him for any of JR's shortcomings.

I've been a supporter of his too. I thought (and I hate to keep saying it) the refs made it hard for him to win the AU game and the special teams made it easy for Fla. to win that one. After the Tenn. and Ark. game, if he were to have "Lack-luster" performances (win or lose) I might not feel the same- I would definitely stop pissing off my friends by being in the minority and defending him when they jump on him.

I don't doubt that Flynn could do the job too but really look forward to seein RP taking the reins (I like a dual-threat QB- in college). It just opens up a lot of options for the OC and gives opposing defenses a lot more to account for.

I'd be curious to know what other college QB's numbers look like against top competition. I wonder if Brady Quinn's or Chris Leak's numbers go down against tougher defenses? Didn't the all world Manning boys struggle at times against top notch SEC defenses? I'd be willing to bet this is pretty common with college QBs.

JR made a number of big plays at critical times last year. He has yet to make any big plays at critical moments in our two big games this year. Is it because his IQ went down since last year or the coaching is worse this year? Or maybe he was just lucky last year?

I do know he has made huge improvements since the '04 season and has more to learn. His mental game has not yet caught up with his physical talents. He'd be better off with another year of college football, but the way he is critcized in Tigertown, he might be better off taking the money and run.

Then we can all cheer for the beloved backup QB next year...

I hope this isn't in response to my comment on RP. I didn't mean it to come across as that, just meant when his time came- still believe JR is the right one for our team.

Nah, it wasn't aimed at anyone. It's just the way it is. The backup QB is always the most favorite player when the team loses a ballgame or two.

I said it in another thread and I'll say it here. We need a dedicated QB coach, not the OC. Someone who can work with the OC and hone the QB's skills. We should have picked up Cutcliff when he left Ole Myth.

Whatever else you think about the guy he is pretty decent at grooming QB's. OR in lieu of him, we could still find another one to do this necessary job.

I can't say whether it is JR's fault or the coaches, but certainly LSU could step up and give the athletes the tools they need to help LSU win.

I am not saying Jimbo is a "bad" QB coach, just that there are people who specialize in this, and let's face it with all the demands put on the coaching staff I am sure Jimbo would welcome a helping hand, with ALL of the QB's.

Does LSu already have a dedicated QB coach? maybe they do and I am just not aware of it. Something is missing, I am not sure what but it is. no doubt.

Jimbo is listed as the QB coach. Right or wrong, he has a reputation of developing QBs during his career.

Right/Wrong. He has a reputation of getting the most out of MOBILE quarterbacks. Apparently he is clueless as of what to do with a pure poket passer.
