1. The College World Series ain't the same without the Tigers but remains one of the events in sports that I enjoy the most. The parity, the power swings in college baseball are always interesting and this year is no different.

Of the top 8 national seeds, 5 lost in regional play on their home turf. All lost to #2 seeds except Arkansas which lost to #3 Okie State. As for the SEC, Vandy lost a heartbreaker last night to Michigan which advances.

Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Moo State are still alive. Moo State pairs up with 2006 CWS participant Clemson. South Carolina takes on 2006 CWS runner-up North Carolina, and Ole Miss will play a 2005 CWS and perennially good team in Arizona State.

Last year's champion, Oregon State, is still alive and will face Virginia today in the regional final in Charlottesville. The winner advances to play Michigan.

There may be a sleeper in Cal State - Irvine. I saw them play over the weekend and they are the real deal. Lotsa speed, good defense, and a couple pretty good starting pitchers, at least they were good over the last few days. They can play Garrido-style smallball with the best of them, putting a lot of pressure on the defense. Their coach is a Cal State Fullerton guy who coached the Fullerton pitchers under George Horton when they won it all in 2004.

Sorta strange the absence of some of the "regulars" this year. No LSU, no Miami, no Texas, no Stanford, no Florida State, no Southern Cal.

  2. I agree, I have been semi following it this year. (it is harder when are boys aren't there, but like you, I enjoy the excitement and passion a lot of these kids show) Anyway I am surprosed that none of the real regulars are in but I think this maybe one I watch intently because of that reason. Give some new blood a little taste of the magic and then in years to come I can hate another school!

  4. I haven't paid one iota of attention to baseball this year.

Curse me if you will, but I was enjoying women's sports.
  5. I was at the Vandy game last night and it was a heart breaker. They tied it up with the winning run on 3rd and could not get it in. Even Pedro Alvarez hit a homer in their last at bat but was robbed by UM outfielder with 8 foot arms. It just was not meant to be. Kinda reminds me of the St. Louis Cardinals. They were the favorites to wind the World Series and the Red Sox sweep 'em. Then they barely get in the playoffs, have lousy pitching and win the World Series. I truly blieve there is a Baseball God. Please baseball God, let all our past Mike the Tiger's protect your throne and bring our baseball program back to Omaha. :geauxtige
  6. i was hoping that vandy would win it all. now i am going to have to go with oklahoma state. if i don't, i will be disinherited. :hihi:

  7. Didn't Michigan get the go-ahead run(s) off Vandy's ace ? Who woulda thunk it ? I was pullin' for Vandy to win it all. Will have to decide now between South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Moo State unless my daughter-in-law's around. She's an Okie Lite grad.
  8. Yep, I was pulling hard for Vandy. The games and crowds were incredible. No one alive can remember a Vandy team being ranked #1 nationally and playing its way to a possible NC. The fans were electric like nothing I've ever seen up here in Nashville. Of course all the Orange Vandy haters are all over the boards bashing Vandy today. They have no class and seem to be quite jealous of the success Vandy is starting to have with their athletic program. It's really fun pulling for a small school underdog program like Vandy.
  9. Yes they did. After Vandy tied the game up in the bottom of the 8th David Price came in for the top of the 9th. The place was rocking. He got all three batters out. Vandy got a guy to second but could not get him in. In the top of the 10th Price got the first batter out on strikes. Then went 3 and 1 on a big strong freshman pinch hitter. You know the UM coach told him to swing away. David should have walked him. He threw his fast ball right down the gut and the guy connected for HR. The crowd went from ecstatic to silence. All you would hear was the UM players celebrating and about 20 UM fans in the stands. What a game!
