Les Miles' hasn't exactly wowed me, but I do remember as great as Saban was, feeling that we would usually be limited offensively. I also didn't like the way Saban wouldn't admit faults, a trait Miles' shares. Why do most coaches opt towards being conservative? I guess because the odds are in your favor. What about Urban Meyer? I haven't been impressed with the effectiveness of his offense. I imagine he doesn't quite have the type of players he would prefer and he seems intelligent, so his sucess at Florida may grow, but so far his offense seems little more than a gimmick. Who is the coach at Wyoming, and has anyone seen them play? They beat Ole Miss and have been having some sucess lately. That guy must be special. Kentucky's coach who moved to Baylor has done wonders also, he has made something out of Baylor and brought Kentucky to heights beyond expectation. Kansas has improved, but they dropped a game this weekend to Texas Tech. Alabama has had success while Texas A&M and Frannie haven't seemed to turn the corner. They did beat an improved Baylor team so that close win may not be as bad as it seems, and their only loss was by one to Clemson, so I guess I have to give Frannie time before being too gleeful at his demise. I've been cheering on Vanderbilt, it was sad to see them stay true to form and lose to a bad MTSU team. I've also been a mild fan of UTEP, the school of Bama's other expired coach in Texas, and I was disappointed at their loss to Memphis. What happened to when North Texas was good, and why is Troy so much worse than they were last year? Boise St has been winning after dropping their first 2 games. Thank Georgia for keeping them out of the limelight this year. Will UConn continue to improve in the Big East? They've only dropped one game so far, unfortunately it was to their only relevant opponent. I like to keep an eye on the underdogs and will continue to do so all year. It's also good to see Notre Dame doing well, I hope they clobber USC. Don't know why I ache to see the Trojans lose, I just do. If Notre Dame gets too good I might want for their loss as well. I'm impressed with Michigan St, I think Ohio St is still a strong team, and those two ACC powers from Florida are somewhere in limbo. I like Florida St more than Miami. I don't have faith in Penn St yet. I do like Cal, and UCLA might have a shot at USC if Notre Dame can't drop a W on them. I think that covers most just about everything. Oh yeah, its past time for a playoff.
I read the whole thing Robin Hood. You make some good points. That could have been about 12 different threads, however. Stick around, you seem to have a passion for college football, as do many of us. Edit: Now why would you go and change your location? Are you trying to make me look foolish?
Good thread! I'm going to ignore the Miles section because it's been talked about enough for the moment. Florida's talent wasn't what people were claiming it to be - plain & simple. They have a talented team, but it is thin & definitely not one of the most talented in the country. We won't know for sure whether Meyer's offense will work in the SEC for a few seasons & once he's had the chance to recruit to his strengths. My guess is that he is smart enough to realize he'll have to change it & go with what works. Bama's success is still in somewhat question. Outside of the Florida game, none of their wins have looked that great. Was Florida that over-hyped or did this team just put it together, and will it stay together? I think injuries take their toll & Bama gets 2nd or 3rd in the West this year. I'm not sure what to think about the Aggies.. I was really hoping for them to be a good team. At most, you can say this team looks inconsistent. Sometimes they look great, but they struggle a lot it seems. Is this a trait of Fran? I don't know. Orgeron is the joke everyone in the country knew he would be. Although I admit his defense is pretty good there. It still won't be enough. We could be looking at a team that comes close to being winless in the SEC this year. I was happy to see Vanderbilt get some success. I want them to be a decent team, but am glad to have them at the bottom of the SEC. Georgia could be overhyped, but they might put it together for their big games and have a pretty good year. I still expect them to win the East. Michigan St has to be one of the biggest suprise teams so far this year. We'll see if they can keep it up. I'll be routing for every team that plays USC.
Sorry about changing my location, for one I've moved from the Sherwood Forest area, and for two I don't like to think of myself in tights and your post put that very dreadful image in my head. Alot of us seem to think LSU should still win the west, and while I do want them to I don't see us as anything more special than Alabama and Auburn. I feel more impressed with what Alabama has done so far than what LSU has done and even though Tubby isn't going to win a popularity contest if I have anything to say about it, I respect the heck out of his coaching ability. I see the east as open as the west. Georgia is ranked high because they started high, and both Tennessee and Florida have solid early wins but have plenty of question marks. Who wins between those three probably can't be more than a wild guess. I never saw Arkansas falling to the low they have, I've always respected Arkansas and that cooky Nutt. I also expected a bit more out of South Carolina, I'm sure Spurrier is frustrated and getting grayer by the minute. I've always had something against Ole Miss, so their struggles don't bother me much. I'd like to see Mississippi St have more success, but they haven't done much since Croom got there. Impossible or not, fair or not, Croom hasn't gotten it done yet.
I'm sure none of us want to imagine that. Salty....are you from BR? Are you familiar with the various subdivisions in and around BR metro area? After beating Florida 31-3 I agree. Until then I was not impressed with victories over the likes of Arkansas and South Carolina. USC lost 12 players including their starting tailback from a year ago. Tubby didn't do anything until he got an OC and a DC. Their DC is gone, so we'll see what happens with that. It is hard for anyone to continue in greatness after losing an entire backfield. Agreed. Matt Jones graduated. Say no more. Spurrier will be back to 7/8 win seasons. Anything more would be stretching it. I think it's pretty hard to recruit up there. Croom's got to build a program from scratch. It will take at least 3 to 4 years before he starts showing results.
I've never lived in BR, but I spend a lot of time down there. Now that I think about it, it seems like I have heard of that subdivision before. My knowledge of the area is limited.
Cowboy Joe Glenn is the head coach at Wyoming. Here's a link to his resume. They are 4-1 this year with their only loss coming to the Gators 32-14. Their fans love him. I've seen him interviewed on TV and have heard interviews on the radio and he is always upbeat and positive. That and he's got a hell of a sense of humor. I saw them come from behind to beat Air Force. They've got a pretty good team and should contend for the Mountain West title and go to a pretty good bowl game.
I root for all those underdogs too, but I'll never include ND in that mix. I'll always root against them unless they are playing a team that would be hurt more than them by a loss, like USC, who I have always rooted against since the early 60's. Wonder if Urbane will move Leak out and Portis in if Leak continues to struggle with the offense. Portis was made for that attack I've heard. Wisconsin is my team in the Big 10 this year, I've always liked them for some reason. PSU I've never disliked until they joined the Big 10. I've enjoyed seeing them crumble but do not mind them having a good year so far. I'll be pulling hard for the Bears and/or Bruins vs USC. Hell, even for the Mildcats this week. Was hoping to see ISU win the Big 12 north, now I'll be pulling for for all 4 of the teams that are 0-1 as I do not like the men from Corn or the Buffs and there coach. Love seeing Frannie's teams lose to, but they always seem to start slow and pick up steam, so don't count the Aggies out yet. Someone needs to beat Teaxas other than the Sooners. I'd like to see Texas Tech win the Big 12. I don't think Glenn will be long for the Cowboys, one of the BCS schools will hire him soon. He's been the best they have had since Gerry Depoyster and the Cowboys played LSU in the Sugar Bowl. I think everyone outside of Knoxville and Lexington pulls for Vandy when the Dores aren't playing their own team. The folks in Lexington pull against them because they do not want to be the dorrmat in the East. I'm glad Boise lost early as well, no telling how high they would have gotten this year if they stayed unbeaten. Glad Louisiville lost as well, we do not need an unbeaten Big East team vying for a NC. I think Miami will end being better than FSU as there QB is going to develope into a better player. But neither will be as good as Va Tech I think. Vick has surprised me, last time I saw him play he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his passes, the year off helped him a lot. I think he was like 1-14 in the game I saw and was better at WR. Helped Va tech and Beamwer last year with him sitting out, leaving Randall for the job without controversy or alternating them.
