A new low (or high - depends on how you look at it) in college football. My question: who would make perfect (funny) sponsors for some SEC rivalry games? I can just imagine the "Preparation H Florida v UGA Game" SBC agrees to pay for naming rights for rivalry game Associated Press 10/26/04 It turns out there was a price tag on the storied rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan. SBC Communications has agreed to pay $1.06 million for the naming rights to the Ohio State-Michigan football game for the next two years. When the two teams meet for the 101st time on Nov. 20 in Columbus, the matchup will be called the SBC Michigan-Ohio State Classic. The order of the two school names will be switched for next year's game in Ann Arbor. A logo featuring SBC's name will be displayed on the scoreboard and on signs around Ohio Stadium, but not on the field or players' uniforms. Each university will receive $530,000 from SBC for the two-year deal. Link: http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3111794
That one of the saddest things I've seen. I don't know 1 person who likes the company/bowl tie ins, so I suspect people really won't like this.
Same thing regarding sports stadiums. At one time we had great names such as 3 Rivers Stadium, now we have Network Associates Coliseum. WTF?
It's yet another reason I dislike the pro game. I wish college football would nip this in the bud, but what can you do.
If it gives schools more money to have nice uniforms, better facilities... why not? I could care less personally...
agree. it does kinda suck but overall it doesn't really matter if major bucks are flowing to the schools.. however, the poulan-weedeater bowl was the best. I miss it yet the Independence Bowl is now a million dollar bowl. before, you received 30 cents per school.
That's not that bad in my opinion....each school's athletic department is getting an extra 500K to play in the SBC Michigan-Ohio State game. I'd take the 500K for LSU to play in the SBC Geaux to Hell Ole Miss game!
