What are your thoughts about this and is this surprising to you? I did also find this video interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nh_c5bbvmqc
In the final analysis, his "blackness" wins out over loyalty and integrity. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Hello plum cabinet position.
What is pragmatic about Obamma? Lots of smart and pragmatic people think Obamma's platform is neither smart nor pragmatic. Also something has convinced you that he will govern as a moderate, and I can't figure out what it is. Please enlighten me. From his personal associations to his voting record to his platform it all screams LIBERAL.
I guess if he would have endorsed McCain, this wouldnt be news at all. 4 years with Bush and here I am thinking the guy didnt learn anything. Apparently he did, now he's a racist:rolleye33: Even though he contributed the max to McCains campaign this year, 2,300. So what does that make the other republicans who endorses Obama?
I read his book, which he wrote before the campaign. He really does balance his thoughts with a lot of "on the other hand" considerations. He has a supple intelligence that allows him to consider the possible consequences of neglecting the contrary viewpoint. Resolve alone is not the only mark of a leader. He must also be broad-minded to effectively govern a nation as big and diverse as this one. He has seen the success of Bill Clinton's populism that allowed him to govern from the middle instead of from the Ted Kennedy liberal fringes. You know, Ronald Reagan's personal associations and record as California Governor all SCREAMED extreme right-wing conservative. But . . . in office, he often consulted House Speaker Tip O'Neal and other Democrats to achieve a consensus and he presided as a moderate. So did Bush 41 and Sir William of Smooth. Bush 43's failure to achieve partisan cooperation and the disastrous results are not lost on Obama.
I have not read his book, but thanks for letting me know where you are coming from. I see a marked difference in the moderate Reagan and Clinton administrations and the prospective Obama one and that being both Reagan and Clinton had to deal with a Congress majority from the other club during their administrations. Obama will have a friendly Congress for at least 2 years, and that more than anything scares the bejeebus out of me.
Not just a friendly congress, but in all likely-hood, a philibuster proof Senate. I don't think either side has had that in a while, which is the real key to moving way right or way left. But back to the question, I think he chose the man who he believes is best for the country right now. It's news because he is a republican and was an advisore to Bush. He stated he believed both were qualified and make a good president. I don't fault the man for endorsing who he believes in.
I don't expect it to swing too far to the left. The new democratic Congressmen that are taking seats away from conservative Republican districts are not at the far left of the spectrum.
