I'm thinking about this because I was picking up breakfast this morning, and was going to stop at an Exxon for a cup of coffee. They were inexplicably closed, and I remembered that a McDonald's is down the street.

Now I like Starbucks, and go there once or twice a month (that new Maple Macchiato, half maple, is really good.) But for a basic cup of coffee, it's tough to beat McDonald's, and has been that way for as long as I can remember.

So what do you think? I'm also including a write-in category for other coffee places.

For reasons of fairness, I'm not including coffee made at home. :hihi:

McD's coffee is WAY better than On The Runs'. But it is nowhere close to SBs. I used to be all about CCs, but when I started drinking espresso, I found that SBs has the best espresso around. For straight coffee, CCs NO Blend is where its at. There's something about sawdust...I mean chicory in your coffee. Mmmm.

Starbucks is better than McD's, but I try to stick with CC's to be somewhat local!

I think you hit every point right on this one. And chicory is root, not sawdust. This is entirely the reason I didn't include brewed-at-home as an option, because no self-respecting Louisianian is going to take a non Chicory blend over the straight black.

But CCs does serve NO blend on a daily basis. But I do see your rationale for leaving out the at-home brewers. Root...Sawdust...Its just good. Started out drinking coffee milk with Pa-Pa, and never quit. Regular coffee just isn't the same. :bncry:

I very rarely go to McD's except for a salad while on trips back and forth from Nola. (Don't worry, my husband drives while I eat the salad.) I have never had their coffee.

I love PJ's coffee. I bring back PJ's beans with me on every trip so I don't run out.

I am addicted to Starbucks. My big splurge to myself in the last year was a fully automatic Italian espresso maker. It has a water tank, bean hopper, etc. so I just push a button and about 30 seconds later have a freshly ground and brewed espresso or coffee. I keep either straight Starbucks, or a blend of Starbucks and PJ's beans in the hopper.

Hmmm.... I think I'll go get another espresso now. Current beans in the hopper - 1/2 starbucks decaf espresso, and 1/2 PJ's caffinated Hugs and Kisses (chocolate almond flavor).
