My guess, which is as good or bad as anyone, is the following: Urban Myers -- to Washington. He's outwest. Knows the west. Best fit. Bobby Petrino -- to Florida. He was Auburn's OC. Knows the SEC. Recruits the South fairly well. Jimbo Fisher -- to Louisville. I know this isn't a Major-Major, but Louisville will be in the Big East next year, has the money to pay him, and the athletic facilities to support the program. He knows the South. East Coast exposure would be great for an up and coming HC. Derric Dooley -- at LSU. Will be promoted to Offensive Coordinator. Smart as hell. Disclipined. Recruits well. Coaching family background. (Morris Watts may be Saban's safe call here. But you never know, Dooley's been with Saban since the beginning -- 5 years.) John Thompson -- (remember him?) will be Florida's Defensive Coordinator when Bobby Petrino is hired as Head Coach. (Thomson was just fired at East Carolina). He knows the SEC. Can recruit the south. These selections make sense. But when did recruiting Coaches or players always make sense. Also remember, Spurrier must fill staff vacancies at South Carolina.
IMO Florida would be better off with Petrino since he has SEC experience and he has done a great job at Louisville against some quality competition. I think Meyer would be in for a suprise in the SEC(does he have SEC experience?). I would LOVE the chance to kick John Thompsons ass every year at Florida, bring him on. Not sure if Dooley is ready to be an offensive coordinator, he is very very early in his coaching career. He looks to be a future great and has done some wonderful things at LSU but that would be a big step up very early in his career. I also don't want Morris Watts, maybe it was Dumbnardo but you could tell exactly what play LSU was going to run by just looking at the formation when they came to the line of scrimmage. I would like to see Saban take a long look at everyone available before he makes a choice but in the end I trust his judgment.
I just saw on FOX's website where the Browns are supposedly going to fire Butch Davis if he loses to Cincy. It also says some of his "friends" feel he'll go hard after the Florida job if that happens. http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3187764
That would be the guy Florida gets, no doubt. Florida players need some discipline, and Butch Davis fits perfectly for that. He has won a National Championship with Miami, so he gets the respect right off the bat. Florida would be a tough team to beat because Davis is also an excellent game day Coach. He would also lift the respect level nationally for the SEC. A win or loss to a Butch Davis coached Florida would mean more in the polls than a Ron Zook team any day. If the Browns fire Davis this week, look for him to Coach the Gators in the Bowl game they go to. That would help their recruiting (and makes ours and everyone elses in the South more difficult)
You are right! I forgot about that. Their attitude was bad to the bone. Does that make Florida think twice about offering the job to him? Nah. Florida wants something like that attitude back in the swamp.
They were cocky and arrogant, but nothing like the thugs Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson put up with.
I disagree. Davis cleaned up the mess at Miami after Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson. Those two coaches created the thug mentality and got them on probation. Davis has an excellent reputation...
I think Urban Meyer is more likely to be the head coach at Florida. He has ties with the President and the AD. I wouldn't be shocked to see Emmert try to lure Tetford from Cal to Washington. A lot of money, better facilities, big fan support and a much better tradition at Washington. It'll be interesting to see who will be considered for the Illinois job now that Ron Turner has been canned.
Yes, he did clean up the mess, but Miami still had loads of attitude; Davis just kept them a lot more restrained than Johnson and Erickson. In any case, your are right, Davis does have an impeccable reputation. Then again, so does Jimmy Johnson, and Erickson keeps on coaching (Seatle, Oregon, San Francisco). I still think it would be good for the SEC as a whole to have Davis at Florida.
