I just found this in Stewart Mandel's mailbag regarding Michigan's Lloyd Carr's replacement if he is gone after this year. :

Here' the link to his Mailbag:

I personally feel Coach Miles will stay because I believe him and I believe his commitment to our program and players. But then I said the same thing about Saban. So who knows. There is one thing I do know, LSU will go on with Coach Miles with or without him. The LSU Football program is in the best place it has ever been in. New coaching candidates will line up to lead this program as one of the best three programs in the nation to lead. So as we continue to hear talk from the media I'm focusing on our season to win another National Championship for LSU. :geauxtige :crystal:

if he wins a national championship he will be owed a huge pay raise I believe. Michigan would have to fork out ~ 3.5m a yr to get him. Thats a huge difference from what they are paying Carr.

I think his agent might get more if this salary thing continues to escalate. Of course it could be less depending on how bad Les wants to coach Michigan.

Opps, lost my focus. Go Tigers! Spank Va Tech! :thumb:

Yep, his "commitment" is specifically spelled out in his contract, no buyout if he goes to Michigan.

I don't even want to think about the possibility of Miles leaving for Michigan should the opportunity present itself. I do agree he is commited to LSU and loves it here.....however...... If I were a coach and grew up a diehard LSU fan and so were all my family and friends just like it is now, and was coaching Michigan and the opportunity came to coach at LSU, that would be a no-brainer (money wouldn't even be that big a deal). So if it by some chance does happen and Michigan goes after Miles and he leaves.....I can't really say I blame him!

Is this going to be another "Saban" era? ...every year waiting to see if/when our coach is going....

I thought Saban would stay awhile longer. I knew he wanted to go pro, but I thought a coach would want to stay a little longer after he built the program up and put LSU back on the map. Not to mention he was worshipped in LA.

But after turning a program into a powerhouse and winning the BCS after a few seasons, the offers come rolling in.

The loyalty of coaches isn't there anymore. They are there to make a name for themselves, get top dollar and go to the school or franchise they have always wanted to go to. They want to be able to have a full plate of options and get the most money out of it.

But the days of coaches staying at one program for a long time and building a dynasty are gone. They are always looking for more money and the optimal school to coach at.

So I hate to say it, but I think Les will leave LSU if offered the job at UM. It would be the perfect situation for him. Making the money he wants and coaching at his alma mater. That is a perfect position for any coach.

I also think if OSU gets tired of Tressel that Urban Meyer would take that position also.

As much as we hate to say it and wonder why a coach would leave a powerhouse school that has LA sealed up on recruiting, coaching in the best conference, who is a legitimate contender each season. But we have to look at Saban and Les in the way that they were using LSU as a stepping stone to get somewhere else. That's fine with me but I wish these guys would hang around longer and I really wish Miles does to.

If I remember the way his contract is spelled out, there's a buyout if he goes anywhere. There was only a clause in it the first year for Michigan.

If Miles were to be interested in the Michigan job, it would be different than Saban. He's a UM alum; Saban is a money hound. It's the difference between following your heart and not having a heart.
