Mauck can play in the NFL

I definitely agree that Matt Mauck could start at QB in the NFL. Not RIGHT NOW, but in a year or so.

This is why I think Mauck will now stay......I mean if Mauck is presented with a shot at playing in the NFL, he has to consider it.

Another year of seasoning (he's only played for about a year and a half) and his stock goes up. And of course he has seen Amp Hill in spring camp. And if Clayton stays (his favorite target), watch for Mauck to stay. The signing of Doucet only enhances Mauck's chances of staying that much more (given the fact that Doucet does not get redshirted). Skyler Green is only getting better at the slot.

But you also have to remember that Mauck knows what pro sports is all about having spent nearly 3 years in the Cubs organization.

I'm sure nearly everyone here would say the same things (that he should stay because of a shot in the NFL). All of us would say that we'd stick around....But nearly all of us have never ran out through the north goalposts, nor played a down of major college football. So, to us, that's all dreams come true. But, sometimes, when you've "been there", things take on different meanings.

Perhaps an NFL career is not important to him and his future wife. Perhaps medical school is something that they look forward to because of it's stability, which, as any sports fan should know, stability is something that an NFL player doesn't have.

Being the 13th ranked QB is like being the 50th ranked RB, I don't think he goes in the NFL. If he leaves it is due to the fact that he wants to start dental school and get on with his life. If he comes back it's because of all the juniors who stay talking him into it. IMO. He's one his NC so maybe that plays a part of it too.

In my opinion, Mauck has a great "field general's" mind on the field, but he isn't the star athelete we need as QB... What I mean by that, is given the tools he's got, he doesn't have to be.. He just needs to see to it that the right person gets the ball, which he's proven he can do. But I think he will probably get on with his life...

On the brighter side of things, we've got some excellent young QB's in the stables from what I hear. I've been told and read that flynn is probably as good as Mauck, but a better athelete as well, with a cannon for an arm.....We probably the best WR group in the game next year, also...

It would be intersting to see how they do. Whichever way it goes, I'll be there for them...

    Geaux Tigers!!

I don't think Matt is NFL QB material mostly because of his arm strength (surprising since he was a catcher in the minors). It seemed to me that he under threw a lot of deep passes that would have gone for touchdowns if he could have gotten the ball to the receivers in full stride. Not to put a real negative spin on him, but he came very close to possibly costing us the NC game when he threw an ill advised pass (something he has done before) late in the game when we were up 21-7 on the OU 30 yd line that was returned to our 30 and led to the final OU score. That play and the pass he short armed to the TE later that would have gotten us a much needed first down, led to Jimbo and Nick deciding not to throw the ball again, which made us one deminsional and caused our D to have to play their asses off the rest of the game. After the game he even alluded to that fact when he said something to the effect that the defense made up for "mistakes" made during the game. Matt Mauch is a good QB, great team leader and the QB of a National Champion, but personally I hope he goes to Dental School 'cause I can't wait to see what our two freshmen QB's can do, especially with the talent they'll have around them. But, if he stays, that will not be a bad thing either.

LSU and National Champions in the same sentence. God, I love it!

    Trust me guys;
    Med School will wait !
Even though he's 24, the average freshman in Med School/Dental
School is 23-26 years old. Thus, there should'nt be worries about him being "too old"
Another option, why would'nt he try to go to Dental School and still play football ? This has been done before, although I don't remember anyone doing it at LSU. The first semester of Med/Dental School is almost all books, mimimal or no clinicals.
He would only have to suck it up for one semester.

The first year in dental or medical school is very intense with book material. It would not be possible to play football because there is just too much time needed for studying.

Also, I think the LSU dental school is in New Orleans.
