do you guys REALLY think Saban is going to put Clayton at Safety? I don't see it happening and Saban has already said Clayton won't play Safety, but I see a lot of LSU fans that think Clayton has already been announced the started Safety!
The only possible playing time for Clayton at safety might be on 3rd and long as an extra DB. I really hope we don't need him any more than that on defense. Or is the plan to not use him at all?
I don't think he will either. We are not thin at Safety, especially with our stud High Schoolers coming in. Yes Clayton could probably be the best Safety on the team, but lets let him concentrate on WR where he can absolutely burn anyone...
i think we should only use him if it's an emergency. Can you image the fans outrage at Saban if Clayton got hurt playing Safety? The fact is, Clayton is probably our best Safety, but we don't want to spread him too thin.
Im obvioulsy in the minority here but, i would like to see Clayton play alot of safety. . We have alot of great WR's that can take up slack when MC is not in the game. The position of safety takes a player with great field presence and MC has that. I'm not saying start him but put him in alot especially on 3rd downs. He likes to hit and hit hard and has great speed. I think its easier to find a good WR than a good safety. And if Saban thinks he is the best safety and decides he wants to start him at safety and limit his WR playing time, then i would be fine with that. Because we have alot of great lightening fast WR that can produce like MC. But we are a bit thin at S, unless one of thes freshmen really impress Saban.
I agree its best not to have him play both sides of the ball however he is a first class athelete, one of the best in the nation. remember people like Champ Bailey played both sides of the ball (So did that QB from Indiana I believe Randel El or something) and both did very well and excelled on both. I could be wrong on Randel El though. I know Champ Bailey did for sure and he was awesome at Georgia. Clayton is different then most players. But I think his role is a WR but 3rd a long and another Roy Williams of UT type as a wide out, put him in to make the OC think a little. Lets face it Jack hunt did not tear it up last year after James was "Let go"
Antwan Randle El played both QB and wide receiver but he didn't play defense. Charles Woodson, now with the Oakland Raiders played both WR and D Back and he won the Heisman.
