the way this will work is I will elaborate sort of, but if you guys have agreements and/or disagreements, let me know and I will elaborate further then. Conference Predictions: East: 1. Georgia- Florida and Auburn both at home. This team gelled very well last year toward the end, so I think the young QB will make real big strides. 2. Tennessee- they have one of the most experienced, returning QBs back, so they will be real tough to compete with. I am glad LSU dodges the two above teams. 3. Florida- People don't realize just how much this team lost last year, and they have a murderer's row schedule as usual. Tebow will be decent, but he will take his licks, too. 4. Kentucky- To me, Kentucky and USC are a virtual tie, but Kentucky has more tough games at home, so I give them the edge, but 5. South Carolina- Spurrier is getting close and he will upset one of the major teams this year, maybe Florida, but they still need a few more pieces. This admissions scandal doesn't help, either. 6. Vandy- I don't track Vanderbilt's recruiting, so it might be horrible, but I really, really like Bobby Johnson and have always thought he has done a real good job. West: 1. LSU- Question at QB, but there is too much talent on this defense to not win the west. If LSU scores 17 points in every game and doesn't turn over the ball, they will be 12-0, playing in the SECCG. Yes, the defense is that good. 2. Arkansas- Auburn is a better football team, but has to play everyone on the road this year, so Houston Nutt will salvage No. 2, despite his job again hanging in the balance. 3. Auburn- They should be 1a. behind LSU, but their schedule is 2006 LSU-esque, so they will have problems going 5-3 in the league without Kenny Irons. 4. Alabama- Nick Saban will have his boys competing harder than Shula's, but the talent just isn't there... yet... Bama will crush the bad teams and be crushed by the good teams. 5. Ole Miss- Ole Miss has a Top-25 recruiting class every year under Ed Orgeron, so sometimes that talent shows itself, like last season against LSU, but despite the A-Grade talent, they are receiving F-Grade coaching, so the Rebels will struggle again. 6. Miss St.- People have said for 3-4 years now that we should give Sly "3 years." What's the excuse now? I don't care how much of a class-act he is, or how much of a nice guy he is, he just isn't getting the job done... PERIOD.
Why do you think we have a question at QB? Everything I've heard is positive about Flynn in practice. You've heard or seen anything different? Are you not concerned about this Oline? It struggled at times last year and we seem to have less depth and experience. This worries me more than anything else.
Here is my explanation of the quarterback "contreversy". You can apply this to any year in the past, and any year in the future. There is not a quarterback contreversy if you ask any player, coach, or expert. But there is ALWAYS a contreversy according to some fans. As long as we have a decent (or not?) backup, there will always be those calling for the backup to replace the starter. I have been a student and then had season tickets for many, many years. I have seen many many top quarterbacks get recruited, play, graduate, and get drafted to the NFL. And no matter how good the quarterback is, one thing remains constant. After any interception thrown or bad series, I ALWAYS hear some numnut yell out "Put ______ in there!". It doesn't matter the year, it doesn't matter the quarterback. I doubt it will ever change. But that's the way it is.
the reason i think they have a problem at QB is because Flynn has started all of ONE game. i mean, yeah, he looks great, but we will never know until then. also, if he gets injured, what happens then? I know he wants to run a lot, so that is a real possibility. as far as the O-Line goes, the starting 5 is good. and I think they can go about 6-7 deep comfortably and have a good unit. just hold your breathe that there aren't 2-3 guys injured at the same time.
