Last week, CIA director Tenet testified that al Qaeda "is just as dangerous now as before September 11th, 2001". Hmmm, now let's examine Sapling's stated goals for his "war on terrorism". 1) destroy al Qaeda network -- FAILED 2) capture or kill Osama Bin Laden -- FAILED 3) capture or kill the leader of the Taliban Omar -- FAILED So the bottom line is that of the 3 main goals of the incursion into Afghanistan, Sapling accomplished NONE of these. What was done was that the Taliban was removed from power (at least temporarily), and others that will end up doing the same things have been put into power. Of course, the US has a long history of "solving problems" by propping up phony governments (Shah of Iran, Ferdinand Markos, Manuel Noriega, etc.)
