I just read an article on the Drudge Report about the growing effectiveness of technology that allows parents to choose the sex of their baby. Just wanted to get some feedback since so many on this forum have stated the case for/against: abortion/right to die/etc. I am against it, naturally. It all seems very much like Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" if you ask me.... p.s.-I would provide the link but my computer skills are extremely limited....
I did not read the link cause I hate the Drudge report and its pop up crap. However I am against picking the gender of you child for unexpainable reasons.
Not surprised. Aren't you for anything that makes anyone else uncomfortable by challenging their closely-held beliefs and tradititions?
I have mixed feelings. I have nothing against the technology. Why shouldn't a family with four boys want to try to have a girl? But, if we had a situation like in some cultures where males are highly sought after and females thought to be a burden then those people might not produce enough females for the fertility of a population to be maintained. Natural selection itself could be endangered. This deserves a very close look and the welfare of the species must be considered.
i dont think we would have to worry about too many dudes being made and not enough chicks. most families would want one of each i would guess. if we are smart enough to have the technology to choose, we wouldnt be dumb enough to create a society short of females. soon enough, humans will be obsolete anyway, with the coming of the robots. (not joking)
