While I agree that these people are animals, not worthy of breathing, I'm a little mixed on my opinion about this, because I think that the concern that rapists would have nothing to lose by killing their victim is also a valid point. If the penalty is the same, wouldn't your chances be better by killing the child?
I don't think the pervs are involved in any rational thinking while they are raping children. Besides, the death penalty is not needed. They'll get theirs' in prison. I only wish I could watch.
Sex offenders - particulary involving prison - are on the lowest rung of the ladder in prison. Before too long they will have wished they had received the death penalty. But the supreme court's ruling is consistent with past rulings that for the death penalty can only be justified when a death has occurred.
