The ENTIRE back page of the Chicago Sun-Times this a.m. has that photo of Saban talking to the official and pointing, with the words "The Hot Line" "LSU Coach Nick Saban's name often is linked to the Bears, but other candidates are more likely should the team decide to dump Dick Jauron." Columnist Mike Mulligan talks significantly about Saban (check it out at www.chicagosuntimes.com I think), but one line: "If Saban, 52, ever wanted to the jump to the NFL, the time is now. His Tigers will play OU for the BCS title in the Sugar Bowl, and he was named Coach of the Year last week by the AP. Saban is probably too hot for the Bears..." These Bears fans are the most delusional people I've ever met. And you want to say that LSU fans have class/manner issues? At the Saints-Bears game 2 years ago in Champaign (where Saints came from 20 down to win), I sat with a couple of my fellow LSU alums and we were verbally harassed to the point where other BEARS fans around us asked security to intervene. I didn't care about the harassment (no biggie, nothing more threatening than any other SEC game), but 2 Bears fans actually got into a fistfight over our harassment. We were also shoved in the back on the way out. "Coach, can you leave your job where you're revered, have the best recruiting base in the country, some of the most rabid fans around, an impressive salary, and a chance to build a powerhouse to come to a city with a team in disarray filled with overpaid babies who play in a new horrid stadium in front of a bunch of delusional drunks? Oh. Ok." Sorry for the rant. Just tired of it here - he may leave one day, but it ain't this day, and it ain't for the Bears. I now actively cheer against Chicago. Heck, I even went to the Colts game last year so I could cheer for Peyton.
Its the same every year brother. Remember last year it was Bears, and Tampa. The year before Giants and Indy... WOnt change, Hopefully Saban stays with us. I think he does, he said he is, so as far as I am concerend thats good enough for me. All this helps recruiting anyway, what kid does not want to play for the hottest coach in College Football.
It's really bad reading the unctuous Jay Mariotti...ever seen him on "Around the Horn?" Well, take that smug smile and give it time to write an entire column. Blech.
I got into an argument down here in N.O. last Friday w/ visiting Giant fan, who, upon finding out I was an LSU fan, started busting my chops about how it's a lock that Saban is going to replace Fassell. All's well that ends well, though...I ended up buying the poor sap a Heineken.
Yeah, I work with a guy from N.Y. who was disheartened at the Saints win but brought up Saban. We talked about it, and he became more depressed when I finally convinced him that Saban wasn't going to go to the Giants, either. Saban might kill Tiki.
Saban might kill Tiki. Tiki would have to join his brother in Tampa. He wouldn't last long with Saban at the helm.
