CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls signed forward Ronald Dupree to a 10-day contract Wednesday. Dupree averaged a team-best 16.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 32.2 minutes for the Huntsville Flight of the NBDL. Last week, the 22-year-old Dupree scored a season-high 33 points against Asheville. Dupree is expected to be in uniform Wednesday night against the Heat in Miami.
Sometimes those 10 day contracts lead to longer contracts and sometimes they don't. I think I remember Ricky Blanton signing a 10 day contract with the Bulls in the early 90s but he didn't catch on.
Basically it is a tryout for Dupree. If they like him then they can sign him for another 10 day contract and then if they still like him they would have to sign him to a guaranteed contract for the rest of the year. It all has to do with the CBA of the NBA stating that all contracts are guatanteed. If a player signs a 3 year contract and then gets injured or really starts to suck the team would still have to pay them. It's not like football where a player can be cut and the team would be finished with them.
randy livingston had one with seattle last year and played well, but i don't think he was picked up for longer. the best thing for dupree is that if he gets playing time with the bulls then it will be like an advertisment to the rest of the league. if they are in need (ie injury) he might get a look i hope he's learned to hit the midrange jumper consistently.
