BATON ROUGE – Steve Gaffney and his son, LSU student Austin Gaffney, are considering dropping the misdemeanor charges against LSU football player Derrick Odom, Gaffney told Gannett Louisiana on Friday.

“I’ll have a decision on Monday, and I may well have a statement on Monday,” Gaffney said in a telephone interview from his office in Baton Rouge.

Odom, a red-shirt freshman linebacker from Jackson, Miss., was arrested on Thursday afternoon by Baton Rouge Police and jailed in East Baton Rouge Parish jail briefly before being bailed out Thursday night, according to a bonding spokesman. LSU football coach Les Miles suspended Odom on Thursday afternoon.

Odom was arrested for his alleged actions in the very early hours of Saturday, July 28, at an apartment complex on Brightside Drive. He was charged with threatening the Gaffneys, for attempted unauthorized entry into Austin Gaffney’s apartment on Brightside Drive and two counts of simple criminal damage to Austin Gaffney’s automobile.

I don't think this matters as far as Miles' decisions goes. He did those things. The title that goes with it is irrelevant. Well, thats how I view it.

I am just glad Miles moved quickly once this became public. This kind of news is never good for a team.

I agree. Miles pretty much indicated that.

Ditto. Miles is very much the disciplinarian, and that will serve him and LSU well.

All players know how CLM moves quick and swift on these matters. If I were a smart player who truly wanted to have an NFL career I would run from any situation that could possibly put me at risk for any type of problem that would jeopardize my reputation, playing time or effect the University that has invited me to represent.

My guess, if Odom does the right things, charges will be dropped, Miles suspends him for 3 games.
