It is being reported that Ch. 9 in BR is confirming that Campo will be the new DC. Any confirmations from BR?
I will watch the replay of it now... Will post within 20 minutes after the sports part replays.. Unless someone else does first.
quote of what WAFB 9 said: "and one other LSU football note with a texas twist. Several independent sources are telling 9 Sports that former Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo is headed to Baton Rouge to join Les Miles' staff as defensive coordinator some time next week. You remember Campo took over Jerry Jones' team back in 2000, a few years after Miles left the cowboys for college campuses. Campo most recently was the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns of Butch Davis"
Sure hope these "independent sources" are accurate. Would have preferred if we could have had the DC in place to use as a recruiting tool.
Great news, thanks for the quote. I still will wait until LSU confirms it..TV stations are notorious for using newspapers, unnamed phone calls, and internet as their 'independent' sources. As we all know, one of those three influence the other...so if a newspaper reports it (only 1 in the world has so far), then the unnamed phone calls and internet picks up on it and contaminates itself.
If this is true, then Wooooohhhhooooooo!!! When this rumor first came out I held out hope but I didn't hold my breath. I thought it was too good to be true. But this would be awesome. The only problem is that I don't see him staying for very long because LSU can't compete with NFL salaries. So if LSU has a great defensive season, which I believe they will under Campo then the NFL will come knocking. Hopefully we could lock him up for at least 3 years.
he didn't do to well as a the head coach of the cowboys. I don't see him going back. He has done that and been there. I could only see him leaving for a head coaching job in college.
I tend to agree that he will probably return to the NFL eventually but it would give Miles a big boost to have him for a few years as both a coach and recruiter until he establishes himself as a solid SEC coach. I would think that Campo would be a huge factor in recruiting on both sides of the ball but especially on the defense having been a head coach of a high profile NFL team like the Cowboys. It would be a big coup for a new coach to lure someone with Campo's resume to be his DC. Sometimes it pays to be patient. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
