College Football News' Mathew Zemek comments on Peach Bowl game: http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2005/Columnists/MZ/Bowls/IA_Peach.htm here's an excerpt from the article.... enjoy
I am looking forward to an Auburn spanking of Wisconsin. I really think that game will be worse then our hammering of the Canes. Hopefully the SEC can run the table. although UF and Bama worry me.
In turn, LSU will soar in terms of "national perception". I'd think a top 5 preseason spot is all but assured in 2006, thanks in no small part to this great win.
A high preseason ranking is ALWAYS a good thing. Yes, we have to replace lots of guys, and we'll either get the job done or not. But just in case we come out like a winning machine next year, I want our ranking to be such that we can make it to the championship game. The higher the ranking the better.
Referring to Flynn as a "backup quarterback" suggests Flynn still does not have the respect he deserves among some sportswriters. Yes, he is a backup quarterback, but he just as easily could have been the starter. People often forget how heavily recruited he was. Flynn was a 4-star QB that just about every top football program was after. In most schools he would have been the started, and would have been the starter here had we not recruited Russell. Flynn will be a diamond in the rough come NFL draft time, if not next year, year after next.
Wisconsin went 4-3 in their last 7 games, including their win over Minnesota when they blocked a goophy punt for a TD with 30 seconds left... all the goophies had to do was take a safety. Plus, they didn't play tOSU... both Iowa and Penn State crushed them at season's end. Auburn will smoke 'em... and that's from a Big Ten guy (me) If the Hawkeyes play like they finished the season, then we should have enough to handle Florida.
