LSU (8-1) at Ole Miss (3-6) 7:45 pm ET Why to watch: LSU has control of the SEC West race after a thrilling 16-13 overtime win over Auburn. The Tigers can't clinch this week with a win over Ole Miss needing to still get by Arkansas next week, but they're in a position to win the SEC title, and maybe even shoot for the Rose Bowl with a lot of breaks. Ole Miss is out of the post-season hunt after losing to Auburn and Arkansas over the last two weeks, but the first year of the Ed Orgeron era can be considered a success with wins over LSU and Mississippi State to close out on a high note. Why LSU might win: If you're looking for the Ole Miss offense to suddenly catch fire this week, it's not going to happen. The Rebels have only scored more than 17 points once against a D-I team, and that was against Vanderbilt in the second game of the season and is averaging just 304 yards and 14 points on the season. The running game wasn't killing anyone before, and now top RB Mico McSwain appears to be out with an ankle injury. Since the loss to Tennessee, LSU has allowed just nine points per game. Why Ole Miss might win: Letdown alert. LSU is coming off the emotional win against Alabama and is giving more than just a glance to the BCS possibilities and what needs to happen to play for the Rose Bowl. Ole Miss has nothing to lose against the mighty Tigers, and has more than enough defense to keep the inconsistent LSU offense from taking over. LSU exploded on North Texas, but hasn't exactly rocked against SEC teams since beating Vanderbilt 34-6 on October 8th. This should be a close game throughout, and if LSU starts turning the ball over, it's 95th in the nation in turnover margin, Ole Miss should keep this close. Who to watch: LSU RB Justin Vincent hasn't done much since he ripped through Oklahoma for 117 yards and a touchdown in the 2004 Sugar Bowl, but with Alley Broussard knocked out for the year in fall practice and Joseph Addai having problems with an ankle injury, he has played a larger role over the last few weeks with his second 20-carry game of his career last week in the win over Alabama. He has rushed for 215 yards and three scores in the last three weeks providing just enough balance and a few big plays to keep the offense moving. With Vincent running well, the running game should be the focal point of the LSU offense if Addai is able to return. What will happen: Ole Miss will treat this like a bowl game, but it won't be enough to overcome the tremendous LSU defensive front seven; the Rebels don't have enough firepower. Normally, I would be disappointed also because this team should be scoring at least 35 a game. But, Ole Piss always plays inspired against the Tigers and our offense has fizzled at times this year. I think anything in the mid 20's means we scored points more often than having complete meltdowns resulting in nothing (ie. turnovers, excessive penalties, missed FGs, etc).
