One wonders when the picks were made, or if much thought was put into it. Either way, its gratifying. . . Less thought: just picked the teams that gave a vague sense of "betterness" based on name. To beat out Miami on such terms is perhaps the greatest compliment. More thought: considered match-ups, Russell's injury, etc. This kind of pick reflects a truer sense of who might win this game, this year, but is not quite as flattering when trying to gauge the status of the LSU "program".
Does make you wonder, especially when there in no line on the game (at least none in our paper) because of the injury to JaMarcus Russell. LSU is playing one of the best defenses in the country with its backup quarterback starting, not the most ideal situation to say the least.
