OK, it's completely asinine to penalize a team for most of the actions that I've seen after a big play (usually touchdown). These kids are psyched up, and so excited, and the refs act like Scrooge. So scrap that stupid rule/penalty, and replace it with this: After the touchdown, as soon as a ref thinks that the celebration has gone on long enough, just start up the play clock for the extra point. If they get a delay of game penalty, make it 15 yards and give the other team the option of having it marked off on the kickoff. In other words, similar penalties, but give the kids a few seconds to celebrate. If they can do that and still get the extra point off, then no penalty.
I agree. I'm assuming you're referring to the penalty given to Clemson when their player did nothing but ran to the back of the endzone where a fan waited with open arms and the player just jogged up and hugged him? I agree. Penalties for celebration--especially with that one, is stupid! Let the kid enjoy a moment with a fan for crying out loud! He didn't spike the ball, or spit in the face of his opponent...He HUGGED A FAN out of joy and excitement! These refs need to get a life. Half of them were probably snot-faced kids that no one liked in high school so now that they have some authority, they want to use it.
why celebrate? all they did was score a TD. Now, if they had cured cancer, then THAT'S a reason to celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree the penalty for celebration is BBBBAAAAADDDDDD. It is not human nature to play this tough game, do something great, and not crow about it a little. I agree on a time limit on celebration, but not "up to the ref". It would have to be the same for everyone. 15 seconds or 20, or 30 sec., then start the time clock on the extra point, as suggested. Its not the ref's fault, its whoever writes the rules. Refs are just calling it like they are told to.
