So is this guy on to something or is he just a misinformed fool with no insider sources spouting off whatever without really thinking it through or doing some kind of investigative work?

Screw the Cotton Bowl that won't even be in the Cotton Bowl. I don't see how the SEC would let its BCS tied bowl move into a non-sec state. Also, since freaking when was Dallas a capital of college football? Yea OK, so UT and OK get together there once a year, oh man, it must really be a capital of college football. What ever would we do if Dallas didn't exist? I guess that makes Jacksonville a capital of college football then? Maybe Birmingham was a capital of CFB during the Legion Field years.

Is this just another case of the great state of Tejas being full of itself or does it have any merit? Anyway, i've always thought the Fiesta bowl was the odd man out. It's definately the least historical. Sugar was the 2nd bowl game ever if I've been told right. I suppose I don't really care if the Cotton joins the BCS in addition to the current bowls (or replacing the orange or fiesta) but it better be to make room for a football "final four", plus 1 system, or some other improvement, not just to let more mid majors in or allow ND to get a bid as long as they finish in the top 20 or some other crap.

Sure, the Sugar might lose its status. I'd think the Orange Bowl is in greater danger of losing its BCS status. The Orange Bowl itself is a freaking dump. The Rose bowl might want out and take its traditonal Pac-10/Big 10 matchup back. However, it's far more likely a fifth BCS game will be added once the next contract comes up then for one of the established bowls to lose its BCS status IMO. Bottom line is the BCS is motivated by money. If moving one of the games to Dallas means more money for the BCS, it'll happen.

Whatever makes them the most money. Forget the SEC state thing or the historical ties.

I would hate to see them scratch the Sugar Bowl from the BCS, but it wouldn't suprise me if the $$ opportunity was that much more.

Hmmm.........does anyone else know who's going to get in this one and say the safety issue in New Orleans is a factor. :hihi:

There's a reason why N.O. has hosted so many Super Bowls, conventions, and hosts one of the BCS games... Lots of entertainment (especially for adults), most entertainment is within walking distance of both hotels and the stadium, has the hotel rooms to accommodate such events, and the city and even the much maligned NOPD have a proven track record of being able to succesfully handle the crowds for large events such as a BCS bowl. While I'm not 100% up on my Dallas knowledge, it's lacking in some of the above mentioned areas, specifically points of interest being within walking distance (more like sprawling suburb, gotta drive). A stadium that will seat maybe 25,000 more people is not enough in an age where the major revenue is coming from TV contracts. It's not like only those with tickets travel to the bowl city anyway. In that respect, I imagine more people w/out tickets would be more likely to want to do the NOLA thing more than whatever it is in Dallas they do. Just my opinions anyway.

He's just spitballing. This isn't based on anything. He thinks that the damage to New Orleans will be detrimental to the city's ability to host big events, but I think the city is already capable & will do everything in its power to make sure that we don't lose that bowl.

If the Cotton Bowl were to replace any BCS bowl, I don't think it would be the Sugar. And they may be adding a +1 system which would require an extra bowl game, which I'm sure the Cotton Bowl would love to host.

100% agree, but you can see where they are coming from. If NO loses that entertainment factor (I don't think they have or will), then Dallas becomes more attactive. Obviously no one, including the writer of the article, knows what the future holds so he is just pulling it out of you know where. Also agree with CParso that they can host events, and I don't know why it keeps coming up (See NBA All Star game as an example).

He statred his career right outside of Dallas. Not sure where he was born but he is obviously a Dallas homer. No solid evidence presented to defend his assumptions.

i don't think you'll see cities hosting two bcs games anymore (i.e. arizona last year, new orleans this year.) the contracts run out after the orange and rose get ther shot at double dipping. but there are 5 BCS games now and i think dallas will join the fold but no one will leave it. alot will hinge though upon how new orleans handles the 08 sugar and NC.
i think dallas will become a bcs city and bcs locales will host a NC every 5 years instead of 4.

And there you have it. The BCS may add the Cotton Bowl, but they ain't subtracting the Sugar Bowl.
