Rex, I agree with you that the value of truly earned medals should not be demeaned. But the way I see it is that Kerry is demeaning the value of the medals given to true heroes, like your father-in-law, by campaigning for medals he didn't deserve. That lowers the value of the medals that were given to the real heroes.

    What medals didn't Kerry deserve?

Both his Bronze Star and Silver Star are accompanied by citations and field reports from his superiors praising his courage under fire. Those same superiors were still praising Kerry as recently as 1996.

He didn't deserve his Purple Hearts? Says who? If it's true that so many people at the time "knew" he didn't deserve them, then how on earth did he get them? The notion that anybody could just reward themselves Purple Hearts not once but three times cheapens every Purple Heart ever awarded to anybody else. Also, the people who now claim that Kerry did not deserve them are making statements about his injuries that are contradicted by the official medical reports from 35 years ago.

    you actually said your son:

which strongly implies that there is a draft coming, which there is not. you can play word games if you like, but your son is not in danger of being drafted, because there is no draft and no plans for one and the president specifically has "ruled it out". stop lying.

    lies.

i specifically repeat over and over that a belief in a generic god of unknown description is not particularly crazy. i always claim that belief is a specific god with specific qualities is stupid.

here is what i said in a previous thread:

    and furthermore i said :

so again, you are lying. i never said that belief in "a god" is moronic, and i challenge to show me where i ever have. the more you lie, the less people will believe you. making claims about things i said, which i did not, thats a pretty bad characteristic you have there. try harder.

Is that your excuse for not responding to legitimate responses that more or less beat you in the argument?

And the draft is not a legitimate threat for the US right now...just another over-exaggerated point by those who will stop at nothing to see Bush get ousted.

    so, martin....

You call me a liar because I stated there is a danger my son will be drafted, and your defense of that is that Bush has "ruled it out"?

That's supposed to be comedy, right?

Are you aware of how many things Bush "ruled out" before he went ahead and did them, anyway?

In his very first week in office, Bush allowed coal plants to increase CO2 emissions from their stacks, even when he vigorously denied that he would in his campaign.

Bush also stated in his campaign that he would not engage in nation building, either, but has now used the liberation of Iraq from its dictator as a rationale for his invasion.

How many backtracks should I list? There are plenty more where those came from.

So now when I say there is a danger my son will be drafted because our military is stretched too thin I'm a LIAR? No, YOU'RE the liar, because there IS a danger... a significant one.

You're a good example of why I'm trying to stay clear of responding to posts, and just might give it up altogether. You are not a reasonable person, and you apparently don't deserve my responses.

Now, about you calling God belief moronic... how did I lie on that? I've been on this board just a short time and I've already witnessed you calling appeals to God "moronic" and theism an "idiotic view of the universe."

Do you REALLY wish me to go back and copy and paste those things here? Do you REALLY wish to eat your words like that?

I might have some views that are incorrect... I don't know what those are but I certainly do not claim infallibility for myself. But I do not lie, sir.

Now go play in some traffic.

In danger of being drafted? If there was a draft, your son should be honored to do his duty to the USA. I have 2 sons of military age and I'll be damned if I'd tolerate any crap from them about not wanting to do their military duty if it came to that. If everyone thought like you, we'd all be eating wienerscnitzel every night. I served 4 years from 1967 to 1971. I volunteered rather than wait to see when or if I would have been drafted. Your attitude makes me want to puke.

    Well...

There is a difference between defending this country, for which my son would happily volunteer and for which I'd be proud of him, and this war in Iraq... which is nothing about our national security.

So, go ahead and puke. I couldn't care less.
