That is the title of a thread on the OU forum right now. The amazing thing is people on that particular forum are wayyy more upbeat than some people here. (just giving SF and FT a new thread to post back and fourth in)
Peabody seems to have already drank the Kool Aid and is happy with their playcalling. I never thought I'd see the day... I'm pissed at OU anyway, b/c that game was painful to watch. Especially when OU had the ball. It was Peterson and 10 dopes. And Peterson was trying to do all he could to win, but, well, he's surrounded by 10 dopes. Where did the good recruits go? They've gotten manhandled THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT against average to bad teams.
I have to say one thing. Not wishing misfortune on anyone but you know that old selfish saying... better them than us? Better OU than LSU.... boomer ( bummer?) sooner. yeah ok turn out the lights Bob party's over... :dis:
Do you think the fans will see this as a "rebuilding" type of year or will they be ready to hang Stoops by the end of the year?
They would have to think of it as a rebuilding year for at least two reasons: 1 -- Stoops has been too good for too long to think he just lost it. 2 -- I imagine more than a few fans realize (now, if not before) how much veteran leadership and play means to a team. This is the first team since Hybl that has a green QB (that I know of....could go back further.)
Certainly if I was a Sooner, I'd cut the dude major slack. No one could have hoped for him to have a better tenure than he has thus far.
Right on. Clearly, Stoops is a great coach. Maybe some top talent went elsewhere to get playing time, given who was there in the past. When they see the opportunity to play, they'll go back. Great programs can have a down year or two. I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater!
I think it's safe to say Stoops job is still very safe in Norman. About the worst that could happen to Stoops is that he takes some heat for the losses this season and replaces a few assistant coaches....But even that, IMO, is a remote possibility. I think the bottom line is that if OU beats Texas (BIG 'IF' there...), then OU fans will be supportive of Stoops no matter what the final record is. They've struggled vs average to bad teams, yes, but their conference schedule hasn't started yet either. If they beat Texas, they're still very much in the race of the Big XII South because outside of the Longhorns, there's still question marks on A&M (losing to Clemson), Texas Tech (didn't know an OOC schedule could be any easier), Oklahoma St. (moving their QB to defense????)..... Basically, outside of Texas, the Big XII is down this year.
