Here's the only positive I can find about this weekend that might give us a fighting chance: Vandy clinched the SEC regular season title and might not play up to their high level. Might even rest some starters and pitchers for the tourney. They definitely won't go too long with any starting pitcher.
Say we beat Vandy only once this weekend, what are our chances of still making a regional? Didnt this happen last year or the year before when LSU made the SEC tourney and went 2 and out and a team who didnt make the SEC tourney made a regional and LSU did not. We have a pretty good RPI rating.
Making a regional w/o winning the SEC tourney seems like a long shot, unless maybe we sweep Vandy and win 2 or 3 games in the tourney. We're barely above .500 and our rpi is at 50.
We still have a shot at a regional even without making the SEC tourney. The SEC 9th place team has made it in the past.
I thought the same but I guess there is no chance of that this year. http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/7526247.html
One year I remember Florids msking a regional and Vandy not making one, but Florida didnt make the SEC tourney. I'm not righting us off.
I think a little politics got envolved last year with the selection committee. This year though, if we make the SEC, I think we could count us in a regional because our RPI is in the 40's and if we beat Vandy at least once, it should go up. If we win the series, even if we don't make the SEC tourny, I think we still get in. SEC is really tough this year.
