i think not. he won it all in just the 2nd year after cooper was fired. His best recruit was the gun-toting, grey goosing, thug maurice clarett. Dude was outcoached by Larry Coker of all people and was only able to win due to a horrendous call in double overtime for all to see. Of course he hasnt won one since. clearly it was cooper's great recruiting/talent that tressel benefitted from, that brought home the crystal. That conservative play calling with the 3 yards and a cloud of dust mentality was exposed by Florida last year. the same offense that looked like the new england patriots against an overrated Notre Dame team the year before. Heisman winner troy smith went from looking like steve mcnair to david carr overnight. maybe cooper recruited more s, oh no they are sensitive that s word. sp.. spee. no can't do it. that same mentality is why OSU has never beaten an SEC school in a relevant game. Certainly getting to the NC game is much easier when the rest of your conference is average and slow (at best). it just means big 10 "championships" are pretty meaningless lately in the grand scheme of things. if not for that horrendous call the great james mcsweater-vest tressel would would have, that's right, 0 :crystal:. And he can thank hangin' with Mr. Cooper for that. :yelwink2: sometimes I like to stir the pot.
Great thread!!! Can't wait for the OSU boys to come in and start making excuses, justifying and spinning your post like a DJ's turntable...To them, Tressel is the best thing since Mac 'n cheese, so I know you'll be ready for all the hate that these boys will bring.
Never thought of it that way. No doubt about the bad call that gave him his only championship. He will soon have the same record as Stoops in Championship games 1-2 in the same order.
tLSU 2-0 OSU 1-2 OU 1-2 FSU 1-2 Miami 1-1 USC 1-1 There's only one school on that list that will be allowed to preface their school name by the word "The" after January 7th, 2008.
Here is a telling stat. The Big 10 has won 3 national titles in the last 50 years. Pretty much nuff said.
Since you brought up the so called bogus call heres a couple pics for ya, I love the first one so obvious ummmmmm......bad call i think not. Just because the flag was late doesnt mean that it wasnt pass interference:insane:
It was definitely a bogus call. At that point in the game, a ref NEVER makes that call. And he shouldn't.
C'mon :rolleye33: Don't play the bad call card. Everyone on this board can recall a bad call or series of calls that cost thier team. For example, I could point to several horrendous calls in a 1993 game against Florida State that cost Nebraska three consecutive National titles, but I wouldn't do that...Oh wait, I just did
