Seems to be what all the writers think as well. And I didn't add Jimbo. But just for your sake here is how I THINK, key word there, THINK it all panned out. 2005 it's Jimbo's offense, and that was obvious, he is the master of the screen game, that's where all the bubble screens came from. Jimbo leaves Crowton comes in, the bubble screen disappears and you see more run out of the pistol and shotgun. 2008 happened and Les took control of the offense. Nothing has changed since 2009 with the exception of losing the option when Mettenberger took over. That's it. Everyone seems to agree with that but you. You think Cameron came in and instituted his own offense? That's miraculous considering it's the same plays run out of the same formations. (Not counting the bowl game vs Notre Dame). Not to mention you never heard from Zach Mettenberger talking about how he had to learn Cameron's offense in 1 season. I fact didn't Cameron say he didn't change anything?
I hear it from anonymous internet posters. I've never once heard it from a coach or a player. Or from a legitimate sportswriter (i.e., not a blogger). Remarkably similar to the plays run by many teams, I'd say. Our offensive problem has been execution of the plays, not the nature of the plays. No coordinator comes in and changes everything instantly, but yes, they do come in with ideas and offenses that they have run before. Crowton even changed the nomenclature of his offense to match was was already in place. But they do bring in their own schemes, they write the playbooks, and they call the plays in from the press box. It's their job. Les has a big job already without doing Cameron's, too.
I'm kinda high on CC. The turn around that Metts had last year was huge. He was a totally diff QB from the previous year. So I think he can coach a QB. I think what we have now in Jennings and Harris are a combination of not able to throw in Jennings and Harris being overwhelmed. I'm not sure what CC did at Indiana but we have QBs right now that can't sit in the pocket and throw. I will say that maybe there should've been more creativity in playing to the QB's strengths with the schemes and play calling. Hopefully Harris can come around and get comfortable if he has the mental capacity and ability to be in the pocket. Otherwise hopefully Braxton comes here and gives us a year to recruit a throwing QB. I'm getting tired of getting dual threat QB's that can't be a pocket passer AT ALL!
I'm not going to add fuel to any fires about how much Les is involved in the execution of the offense or how much command he exercises over his OC. I just don't know. We can tear apart the changes or lack of changes and associate them to Miles. We can listen to statements from current and past coordinators who comment that Les is not as involved as we think. Like most situations it is not as bad or as good as it seems, it is somewhere in between. Personally I think the issue is not as much with the coordinators or Miles' perceived influence over the offense as is popular the popular opinion. I think the issue has to do with talent evaluation and development at the QB position. LSU just doesn't seem to place a priority on finding the top talent at one of the most critical positions on the team. Right now we don't have that guy. Harris may have a ton of talent but if he can't work the muscle between his ears then he's not the right guy. I think this conversation has to start with getting the right QB on this team and developing that person. That to me is the key and is the primary failure of this staff.
I agree but I don't see or hear any real hard effort to get another QB on campus. If Harris didn't warrant playing in that god awful Arkansas game, then he must not have "IT" in the mind of the coaches. I don't know maybe they see something in practice that tells them we are OK at the position, but wouldn't a rational person think QB play could not possibly be worse than the Arkansas game and play the other guy who is supposedly close. I mean that is the mind boggling part. I wish Miles would have had the fortitude to say I'm playing Jennings until this season is over and Harris will have a shot in the spring. My call, end of story instead of dangling the myth that they were "close".
Yep. A nice little, here's my QB I'm playing him, have a nice day. But ... if you sit around and listen to "coach speak" in college and in the NFL many of them typically say a lot without saying anything at all.
The lengths that she goes through to make excuses, all the while could give a fuck less about the football program, only the fact that some don't believe in her daddy.
Mett has talked about how Cam made him what he is, with the short time at LSU. Landry also talked about what Cam had changed in the play calling, the use of the NFL Route tree, how Cam made practice more of an NFL, no wasted motion/time, etc. They talked about being more NFL ready. For years, the DB's were seen to be more NFL ready, now it's getting to the other side of the ball. Something must have changed? Look at last years NFL Draft, Mett, OBJ, Landry, Trai Turner, Blue, Wright, Hill. All these guys made it into NFL camps and most are starting.
