Are they mad? LSU, Tulane on for 10 years Sunday, May 29, 2005 No one knows if Les Miles is going to be the next Nick Saban or another Gerry DiNardo. So things can change. But, at the moment, LSU is a better football program than Alabama, and that's not all. The Tigers are gutsier than the Crimson Tide, too. What is this startling move? Are you sitting down? LSU is going to play Tulane. ... ... The only way for this madness to end is to keep it from getting started in the first place. That's why you won't find Alabama on the same field with UAB or Auburn rubbing elbow pads with Troy. No good can come of it. Look at what happened when LSU was foolish enough to play UAB in 2000. LSU lost. The Tigers didn't win an SEC championship till the next season, and it took them three whole years to win it all. Shortened to comply with copyright. Re: But, at the moment, LSU is a better football program than Alabama, and that's not Auburn has already played UAB. I've also heard that there are talks about getting Troy on Auburn's schedule. If it was up to bammer, they'd let UAB rot like road kill before they'd even consider helping them out with a football matchup. Nah, they'd rather lose to Northern Illinois at HOME before they'd do that...friggin bammers. :dis:
But Michigan, a school that gets a TON of "media love", always plays at least one of their smaller instate mid-major teams (E. Mich, Cent Mich. and Western Michigan), and no one bashes them for doing it. Ole Miss and MSU won't play USM, but that's because the Golden Eagles' program is in better shape that both of them. The way I look at it, when you start refusing to play "lesser" programs from your own home state, or surrounding area, then it's a sign that you're scared, and are in jeopardy of losing those games. What does that prove??? Are we, and every other school from a major conference NOT allowed, or should not schedule mid-majors??? Are we supposed to ONLY schedule teams from other major conferences for out of conference games??? Why wouldn't we schedule UAB? Alabama scheduled USL in the early '90's and only came away with a 3-pt win. What's the difference? Those type of games are scheduled to "lighten" the schedule, gives a smaller school a nice "payday", but what can you say?? --it's a sport--those smaller schools can beat the "Big Boys" every once in awhile (*see USM and La Tech--both have beaten 'Bama, La Tech has beaten Miss St., USL has defeated Texas A&M). Texas A&M didn't win crap the year they lost to USL--it took them a few years after that season before they made it to the Big XII title game (beating Nebraska). 'Bama didn't win anything the year they lost to La Tech and USM... Bottom line is that there are REASONS teams from major conferences don't win their conference in a year where they are defeated by a school from a mid-major conference--NAMELY IT'S BECAUSE IF YOU LOSE TO A MIDMAJOR, THEN MORE SO THAN NOT, YOU AREN'T VERY GOOD IN THE FIRST PLACE; therefore, why would you "win it all"???
Re: But, at the moment, LSU is a better football program than Alabama, and that's not Zing. But wrong... It gutted the Bama faithful, UAT as they call them in Birmingham, when LSU beat the Tide the same year UAB won in Baton Rouge. USM isn't getting a home game from any SEC opponent (save UK or Vandy) until their stadium expands . Ole Miss and MSMoo both have 65-70K seat stadiums on campus, but the largest school in the state , closest to the most people, can accomidate 35,000. I think the "C" in CUSA stands for chickens... . They want the glory, refuse to build the facilities, and whine about it. That league is summed by a stunt Houston pulled a few years ago against Texas. Rather than play at Rice, or the Astrodome, Houston installed temporary bleachers from the World Cup venues to hold the Texas fans attending the game in their Stadium. Just before kickoff, the president of the UH deemed these seats unsafe and refused to let anyone sit there. But they were going to allow the Texas fans to watch the game on a big screen across campus! UAB isn't the historical rival to Alabama that the scum is to us. Bama doesn't need to play them, even less so now that sections of Legion Field have been condemed. If USM wants Ole Miss or State, it's going to be to the tune the Re-belles and the Maroon'd call. No SEC teams to hook up with an upstart CUSA to placate sportswriters and a few po'd doctors in Birmingham.
Re: But, at the moment, LSU is a better football program than Alabama, and that's not UAB and Troy are not historic rivals. Why should Alabama or Auburn fund serious upstarts. Tulane's allowing LSU to pocket $400,000 more than the home team for games in the Dome. Auburn playing GT and Clemson in the future is more in keeping with a return to long-time rivals. Alabama could try and hook up with Rice... and see if they could actually win one against the Owls!!!
Re: But, at the moment, LSU is a better football program than Alabama, and that's not Bama played W. Carolina and Utah State last year... Auburn played the Citidel, La. Tech, and UL-Monroe... they are SO much better than scheduling tulane, let me tell you..
