The president was prosecuted and the affair was not illegal. Monica was of legal age and no laws were broken. This was a political move by Ken Starr, who having failed to uncover any wrongdoing after three years of Whitewater investigation, switched to an investigation of Clinton intended to politically embarrass him. Getting him to lie about it was an unexpected bonus that actually gave him something to prosecute.

That lie resulted in Clinton being impeached and later acquitted by a Republican Congress. Or did you forget that?

Everyone knows why Clinton lied. They may or may not forgive it, but they can understand it. A prosecutor could pass judgement as to whether or not the lie had material value regardless of the circumstances. It did not, and considering the impeachment, it would have been even sillier to go further. That was the judgement of that wild-eyed liberal Ken Starr.

With Scooter we have absolutely no idea why he lied. The claim is that nothing was done wrong, so why lie? Considering that this was a prosecutor that was more than willing to let a witness modify his statements multiple times (e.g. Rove), the lying doesn't make sense if nothing was amiss. The judgement of the Bush appointed prosecutor is that these lies were hindering him from performing his duties. The 30 months was the only leverage the prosecutor had to encourage Scooter to repent.. So in effect the President legally obstructed justice by commuting the sentence.

Now that's a President that takes his oath of office seriously.

    I wholeheartedly agree...

It's a crime to intentionally mislead and misrepresent the truth during a deposition. Anyone who reads Clinton's deposition in the Paula Jones' case would conclude such.

OK, I've seen this stated several times in this thread. Who exactly was suppose to appoint the special prosecutor?

Presidents on all sides do this. This is nothing new or scandalous. Whats amusing to me is the faux outrage that one party displays whenever the opposite party does it.

And then when the table are turned, the roles reverse 180 degrees.

Idealogues are so predictable and boring.

And the story of William Jefferson and the 30 grand of cold hard cash was
    all over the news.
He also took away from the efforts of rescuers trying to rescue starving, dying people but thats ok because he isn't a republican.
You did the same about Tom Foley so we are even.

It has everything to do with bill clinton since scooter libby committed the same crime, they both lied under oath so they should get the same punishment.
BTW No crime happened in neither perjury case since one was about an affair
and the other was about a leaker, Armitage which was never arrested or charged so the only conclusion that remains is that it was all about politics.

Its not that you support liberal positions but you want to sensor out peoples
freedom of speach, you want to control on here what people are talking about
    while or write.
You ASSUME its all about attacking clinton when in reality it is because they
were guilty of the same thing in identical situations.

I don't disagree with this, but it's at the prosecutor's discretion to persue it or not.

The point of making this explicit is because some are pushing the idea that this process is being run by the democrats.

    Some advice...
You should quit assuming because you could make an ass out of yourself!

I'm not justifying anything and I'm no Bush apologist either.
Maybe people are talking about clinton because it was recent memory.
Most people hear weren't born or was very young in the Nixon, Ford, Carter
    or Reagan years.
Then again maybe you should ask questions instead of assuming!
