A local sports radio (670 in Chicago) is breaking a story that the NBA along with the players association has agreed in principle to institute a rule similar to the NFL. Players will have to 3 yrs before entering the draft. I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot about this in the near future.
Thanks for the heads up! This is potentially great news for the NBA and NCAA, and a severe blow to the rights of young adults.
I really don't know. I'm sure they would like to implement as soon as possible, but there are probably some hurdles left to clear. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see some court challenges. Apparently, the Clarett (sp) case emboldened them to move forward. Also, some of the veteran NBA players were pushing this. I think they realize that experience was getting pushed out for potential.
I think baseball does it right with kids being able to be drafted after high school but if you enroll in college you have to play until you are 21. It is a win win for all parties involved.
while i love it as a fan of college hoops, Im don't agree its best for the kids involved. if a kid has no desire or means to go to college and is talented enough to play in the NBA, it should be his right. then again, if the NBA sets its rules and said kid wants to play then he must abide them. its best for all in the long run but not on an individual basis.
Oh here we go...I know, I know...not a fundamental right. But, I have a firm belief that people should be eligble for and seek employment anywhere if they can compete. I fully understand the reasoning for keeping them out, but also understand the flipside.
How ironic this comes up the day after many BBall schools in the country are facing APR problems because of early departures.
I think this is right on. I've been saying they should have a plan similar to baseball for a while now. But a 20 year old age limit would be a good thing for college basketball IMO.
