Another reason why Scooter is the best sports writer in Louisiana.

    Good Column

And I've mentioned the defensiveness of Brady in my comments here before....it reminds me of Mora or Hallman when things weren't going just right.

I agree with "coach the critics" like myself "into silence" but I don't speak on talk radio or the Advocate. I complain and wonder how things could change in private and on this board only.

Things like his defensiveness and his blow-ups alienate him from the one thing that can save his job.........the fans who show up. Why would you alienate the student section like he did against Ole Miss? He had words with people when they were calling for Charlie to play. Is he not man enough to ignore it and do what he wants with his team? No he's not. He has to turn around to the crowd and kind of insinuate for them to shut up.

    Just coach Brady.........

I like Brady, man. He may be a little bananas. Remember when he grabbed the PA mike at the AZ game in 2000 w/ like 2 minutes left in the game and screamed “Wooohoooo!!! THANK YOU TO THE BEST FANS IN WORLD!!! AHHH!!!”. I can’t imagine what Lute Olsen must have been thinking. The fans ate it up because we were winning and had a national championship contender. I knew then he was no normal coach. But there’s no doubt that he is proud as hell and takes LSU basketball very very personal. He’s not untouchably smooth like Nick. Brady’s got a personality like a crazed fan. He’s one of us. I dig it, personally.

As far as the comparisons to Dale, Dale was a damn evangelist, polished motivational speaker. If he wanted to, he could have made millions selling prayers on TV to the poor folks. Dale was a one in a million personality.

I think the problen is that he is just as passionate an LSU fan as any of us who post on this board. He grew up in Mississippi but he attended most of the LSU Football games when he was growing up. One of his neighbors kids was a fooball player at LSU, When the neighbor traveled to see his kid play he took Brady with him, so John grew up loving LSU. Coaching at LSU is his dream job and has stated so many times.

i like brady's personality. who cares if he's defensive at press conferences? most of the time the media ask stupid questions and deserve to be chided. he's only one of a few that will call them on crap. as long as he can keep a good enough reputation in LA to recruit its ok with me.

didnt know he grew up in miss. knew he coached at crowley, so just assumed he was from LA

Personally, I think that Brady is an outright A$$HOLE. Granted most media members don't know a tenth of what Brady knows about basketball, but he still chastises everyone. I'll give an example...

After one home game last year in which LSU won, the Tigers got into a big funk midway through the second half and didn't score for about six minutes. Brady brought in Whipple at the point and the team turned it around. This was one of the first times Whipple got decent playing time.

In the post-game news conference, a reporter asked Brady if he thought Whipple was a stabilizing presence on the team and was partly responsible for turning the team's fortunes. I would say that's a pretty fair question.

Brady responds by asking the reporter how old he is (the reporter was a student worker at the Reveille) and gives him an ugly look before taking another question.

There are also a few stories about Brady confronting media members about writing badly about the program after practices last year.
