In his second at-bat against Braves starter John Thomson, Hawpe hit a hard grounder at first baseman Adam LaRoche. The ball bounced over LaRoche's head and traveled into the right-field corner as Hawpe traveled around the bases, ending his journey at third base for a triple. Hawpe was far from finished, unloading a sixth inning offering from Thomson into the left-field seats for his debut dinger. When he connected for a single to center in the eighth, he was a lone double short of the cycle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm really bummed I didn't get to watch this game on tv, it was blacked out. I couldn't go to the game because I was watching my 3 year old at the time. Hopefully, With Brads debut they will decide to let him stick around a while, I'd love to watch him play on a daily basis. :tigbas:
This is awesome about Brad, and I hope it leads to a long MLB career. In truth iit doesn't mean much. Remember Kevin Mass in 1990? The Yankees called him up he hit ten homr runs in his first 77 at bats. What happened? He stopped hitting home runs. Hell he stopped hitting. He was out of baseball after a few seasons. Remember Kevin Roberson? Similar story. Guy is called up in 1993 by the Cubs. He hits seven homers in his first 6 games. He is batting 600 and his sluggin percentage is over 1000. His flaws are exposed and by 1996 he is out of baseball. Then there is the spunky kid from St. Louis, Bo Hart. He came in and set MLB on fire. He even won the starting job at second base. He hit 300 for about 6 weeks. His story cought everyone's attention. A 27 year old rookie out of Gonzaga who made ends meat by working at a department store in the off season. He ended the season at 277. He is hitting 154 this year and was benched. What happens to these guys? Pitchers study their at bats. They find their holes and they exploit them. Some guys adjust, but most don't. I hope Brad is able to adjust and his opening night success isn't the result of facing an ill prepared pitcher. Time will tell on that one, and I think in a few years we will be talking about the All-Star Brad Hawpe.
I oughta pick him up in my fantsay league. I just picked up Matt Holliday that made his debut with the Rockes and he's hitting over .400 with 3 HR. Hawpe's gotta be better than Brandon Inge. Is he going to start all of the time?
Brad is starting tonight against the Expos. He's 8 for 12 on the season with 2 singles in the game today Holliday got a base hit, Brad was walked so that the pitcher would come up to bat with no one out. Pinch hitter came in and made an out then Sweeney hit a double and Holliday and Brad scored. 2-0 Rockies
yep 2 for 2 tonight with a run scored. .667 pretty sweet. Is Larry Walker ever coming back this year? Let's hope Brad keep a starting position.
