Ive been hearing how LSU is more than likely going to play west virginia in a bowl game... or maybe even south florida... Is It Just me or is LSU getting COMPLETELY SCREWED as far as a opponent goes????? WVA is ranked 12th? And South Florida... 34th? This whole deal for LSU seems VERY shady... Why couldnt LSU play a higher ranked, nationally known team? Ohio State? Penn State? Notre Dame? Miami? Virginia Tech? NOOOOO! Wrong! LSU gets West Virginia.... This reminds me of when LSU got Illinois for a bowl game in... what? 2001?... when I think they were supposed to get ohio state? This isnt shaping up right... I don't see how teams ranked farther down are going to what seems like is a better bowl game... ARGH! This occured to me this morning when I read this: "14. West Virginia (8-1) Didn’t play this week next game: Pitt West Virginia might be the most underrated team in the country. ABC and Sugar Bowl officials will be lighting candles and praying to the BCS gods that the Mountaineers go unscathed against Pitt and South Florida to take the Big East title; they really, really don’t want a South Florida-LSU matchup." I just believe that LSU is being disrespected with this possible matchup of west virginia or south florida...:cuss::cuss::cuss: Thoughts? Opinions?
I think it has more to do with the order of selection by the Bowls.... didn't the Fiesta pick last last year... and got stuck with Utah - Pitt? And this year the Fiesta picks first after the rose bowl match-up.... and will take ND. Historically, the SEC does the Sugar and the ACC, the Orange, right... and with the Sugar going last, I think the WV/USF winner is just the turd in your punch bowl this year. not pretty.
I'm not saying it'll happen, but Texas or USC could lose. If LSU doesn't slide into the Rose bowl, the BCS has "special powers" to make up their own matchups in extraordianary circumstances. Pitting LSU against say the Texas or USC loser I think would qualify as that, given what controversy there would be over the one loss teams.
Hawk is right on this. Bowl tie ins has the SEC and Big East in the Sugar Bowl. Hope for SC or Tejas to lose...but LSU has to take care of business vs. the Hogs and Dawgs.
Wait, first you said Hawk was right (regarding the bowl selection order), but then you say that the Sugar has a tie in with the Big Least. There is no tie in with the Big Least, is there? If so, that's news to me. I know that the Sugar automatically gets the SEC champ if that team isn't in the championship game. But, doesn't that SEC champion get as an opponent the BCS team that it wants and that is available when it's their turn to pick?
many posts about this, but one possibility hasnt been mentioned here--evidently WV travels great and the Orange might pick them up, but since Miami lost, maybe wont happen because you'd then get a regular season rematch.
You are correct...Sugar automatically gets the SEC tie in. My understanding is the Sugar is last to pick vs other BCS bowls thier choice of team...which leaves the Big Least! I know in the past, if I am correct, the Orange Bowl had the Big Least tie-in when they had Miami, BC, and Va Tech...but since it is water down, the Big Least is trying to survive and prove itself as BCS worthy. Funny thing is, Auburn may get a better BCS match up then LSU ...but teams in front of LSU and Auburn have to fall out. I am wondering if USC falls vs UCLA, will they be shut out of the Rose? I think they are still in it. I think LSU can make the jump if they win out and AM knocks out the Longhorns. will have to root for Fran and the Boys and knock Ol Nutt and Shockley around to the trip to Pasedena. :crystal:
