http://www.theind.com/news/11165-cest-what-br-eatery-lawyers-up-vs-dean-os While the link is about food, I posted it in the roundtable as more of a discussion about the legal side of it. The Pastime and Deano's are two of my all-time favorites but it sounds as though Pastime is being extremely petty about this issue.
Pastime is just jealous because their pizza is really bad. I know a lot of people love it, but I can't for the life of me understand why. It is shamefully bad.
That's what I'd like to know. From the clip below it looks like he'll end up with a more unique/better name imo. I would've never never imagined I'd love boudin dipped in mustard, or bar-b-qued but something doesn't set right about the thought of it on a pizza but I'd try it. May be surprised.
The last time I went to Deano's was the weekend before Mardi Gras and met up with an old group from high school. Started with the crawfish nachos, got a big sampler pizza to share that included the Marie Leveau (also the Executioner, TRex, and pizza of the month) with a lot of fairly cheap draft beer in between.
Deano's should challenge the trademark in court. Boudin is a generic food name and they could make the case that the trademark is improperly applied. There is a hamburger chain in Ohio called Mac's Hamburgers and they serve a sandwich call a Big Mac. Macdonalds heard about it and sent them a similar cease and desist letter, but Macs took them to court and won the right to retain the name because they had been offering Big Macs 20 years before MacDonalds did. You can't be in business for 60 years with a "shamefully bad" product, chief. As in hamburgers, your pizza preferences confound me. It's not as bad as it sounds, but it ain't one of my favorites. The Pastime added a bunch of specialty pizzas to the traditional menu a few years ago.
Baton Rouge is a town of people with very poor taste in food bro. If you don't believe me look at the Best of 225 awards. Two years ago Pappa Murphy's won best pizza, and Sams club finished third. This year McDonalds had the second best french fries. Outback is always in the top three for best steak, and Flemings never is.
Shortly before Drew Brees' mom passed away, her law firm allegedly sent letters to many of the Houston area restaurants demanding various sums of money to maintain their current restaurant names (some of which were many yrs old). Not sure what the reasoning was but think she was about to get in some big trouble. One of my friends always goes with the Pastime roast beef po-boy. I don't know how many times I've had the Pastime Pep pizza around noon on gameday followed by hours of drinking whiskey and beer with no stomach issues (unlike starting the day with a good diner breakfast). Never had any sort of boudin pizza but would probably like it.
