From Sooner Sports: LSU's official mascot, a Bengal tiger named Mike, is not expected to make the 80-mile trip here from his den on LSU's Baton Rouge campus. LSU wanted Mike on the sidelines of the Superdome field, as he was the last time the Tigers appeared in the Sugar Bowl following the 2001 season, but logistics presented problems because the Sugar Bowl is the BCS title game this season. Sugar Bowl officials said there are only a few spots around the perimeter of the field where Mike's cage would not interfere with the sight lines of fans holding tickets that sold at face value for $150 each. Sooner Sugar Bowl Central Much of the available space behind the team benches will be occupied by seating for about 1,500 members of a marching band made up of high school students from around the country. There also will be more media on the sidelines, with space near the corner of one end zone set aside for a network television studio. Oklahoma, however, will be able to bring its famed wagon, known as the Sooner Schooner, pulled by a pair of horses named Boomer and Sooner. But even the schooner's appearances will be scaled back. During games in Norman, Okla., the prairie schooner makes runs whenever it can, and usually after the Sooners score. During the Sugar Bowl, the wagon will be kept in a tunnel, out of sight for much of the game, and will likely make only one run around the field shortly before kickoff, Oklahoma sports information director Kenny Mossman said. But in a game that, because of its proximity to Baton Rouge, will have much of the ambiance of an LSU home game, Oklahoma will take any edge it can get. ``We'll have a tremendous mascot advantage,'' Mossman joked. " They should let Mike out of his cage right about the time the ponies start running around the field, that would get everything off to a helluva start! TIGER BAIT!!!
