True enough, it is a mutual exploitation arrangement at present. We probably have covert agents there, but they have not allowed US ground forces to operate, nor have they allowed any airpower to be brought against any Taliban in Pakistan. We have Special Forces in Afghanistan that are itching to go across the border, but aren't allowed. The Pakistani military is very pro-Taliban and anti-American. Yet they need us because they are in a fight with India over Kashmir and an alliance with us makes an Indian nuclear strike unlikely. The muslim mind is difficult to comprehend. But they can't be trusted. None of them.
I have two sides to me....one where I want to help these people but then everyday London gets bombed, man I wanna unleash hell on them too. I think about how hard Bush has it too. No matter what you think about the Iraq thing, you know he feels the same way..... That "man I'd, like to nuke these bastards." But then Laura comes in and says, "George, they just have been kept poor and stupid. We have to help them." But he's the one who's seeing men comes home dead under his orders.......he's the who meets with Saudi and he knows the double talk he gets. It's a tough business. My gut instinct is to always fire first and ask questions later but as the President, it's a little tougher than that. I think there's a line Red. My cousin, a SGT in the army came home and said it pisses the soldiers off so much to never have any of the good reported. He says there's 140,000 troops there but you only hear about the 2 who got killed in one part of a huge country. In every other part the rest of the 140,000 are seeing and making a difference in these people's lives. The majority of these people want us there and want our help and understand what's happening. That's when I see that we are doing the right thing by being there........
The parralells Red drew to Musharrif and the Shah are kinda scary. What is even more scary is Pakistan has the bomb. We need to support Mushariff pressure him to make reforms and flush out terrorists. I wonder if the reason why we don't have troops there is because the militaty will overthrow the regime if it gets too friendly with us. Anyone else got an opinion...
