It's that time of year for goober peas again! Grew up on these in BR as a kid, my pawpaw would come down from Kentwood with a potato sack full'o'fresh peanuts, Dad would put the crawfish pot to work, and us kids devoured 'em. Discovered really fresh ones at the farmer's markets here, as they are an Asian delicacy as well. If you get them real fresh, a day or two out of the ground, you don't have to boil them long. I really don't like them when they are overcooked and salty. Eating them reminds me of being a kid in the summer in South Looziana, with  football right around the corner. Had some today, they are killer when they are fresh and hot, with a cold beer. You like 'em?
That's just gross Okie. This forum is mostly straight males and I'll speak for the myself and the rest of em and just say we don't wanna hear that crap!
I boiled about 4 pounds of em 3 weeks ago. They didn't last long. I actually prefer them cold. I did half of them w/ salt, half of them w/ crab boil in lieu of salt. I like em a bit spicy, but the kids prefer them just salty. I wish we could get them "green" (fresh) like you are talking about Cali, however, I can only get raw here. That said, I by as many as I can get, boil them and freeze them. They freeze well and I pull some out for each Tiger game.
Ugh! Boiled peanuts are slimy and unappealing to me. Roasted peanuts are what I grew up eating. Crunchy.
