for the SECCG participant. I e-mailed Skip the other day and asked him if it were too late to get another rule change due to the possbility that if LSU BEATS Georgia we could knock ourselves out of the N.C. Sugar Bowl game. He e-mailed me back and stated that it probably was too late for him to do anything about it, but he urged me to send an e-mail to the SEC Commissioner's office. The e-mail address is -

    [email protected]

    Here's my e-mail --

    Dear Sir:

I would like to ask the SEC offices to reconsider the new rule for the participants in the SEC Championship game. There is a possibility that LSU could go into that game with the opportunity to play for the N.C. However, by BEATING Georgia, LSU could knock itself out of the N.C. game because the earlier "quality win" points that LSU got for beating Georgia would be eliminated.

This would also hurt the SEC because there is the possibility that with an LSU game against Florida or Tennessee, Georgia would almost assuredly get a BCS bid. If LSU beats Georgia in the SECCG, Georgia could be knocked out and the SEC would only have one BCS bowl team (LSU).

There has to be some what to make certain that LSU doesn't lose a chance to play for the N.C. BY WINNING the SECCG, and, at the same time, give the SEC a better chance at having TWO BCS bowl teams.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Try to personalize your e-mail, but let the Commissioner know that the ENTIRE SEC might get screwed out of ANOTHER BCS bowl bid (in addition to the guaranteed BCS slot for the SEC Champion) by virtue of Georgia's participation in the SECCG.

No can do ... Georgia should not be forced to give up an opportunity to play for the SEC just to help out LSU.

You know damn well LSU fans would be going bonkers if they kept us out of the SECCG in a similar situation.

Even if it meant a GUARANTEED Rose or Orange Bowl???

Further, that's the BEST Georgia would do even if they BEAT LSU.

    So, Georgia's scenario is -

BEAT LSU - Go to the Rose, Orange or Fiesta.

LOSE TO LSU - Go to non-BCS bowl

DON'T PLAY - Go to Rose, Orange or Fiesta.

They went to the SECCG last year. And, it's not like this has been some LONG TERM rule that everyone knew about prior to the season. The "new" rule was "made up" just a couple weeks ago. It's not like Georgia has done anything to change its position to avail itself of the new rule. In a sense, they'd be "lucking into it".

I say go back to the OLD rule that everyone THOUGHT they were playing under at the beginning. With the chance of TWO $14 million dollar bowl games, the SEC A.D.'s (or Chancellor's) would certainly choose the "right" team. EVERYONE in the SEC would benefit to the tune of $500-750,000. And, THIS is what may have been envisioned when the OLD rule was put in place.

I understand your point and I would love to see LSU in New Orleans ... I have my hotel room reserved and ready to go!

I have a problem with the SEC Office taking away the opportunity for a team to play for the SEC title. I realize it may hurt our chances of playing for the MNC this year, but I would be pissed if they did that to LSU in the future.

    I value the SEC Championship!

They in essence took away Tennessee's opportunity to play for the SEC title a few weeks back by changing the rules in the middle of the season.

I don't think that it is too much to ask to change it back!!!

The rule change may have actually guaranteed Tennessee with a BCS bowl bid because there can be only one winner in the SEC CG and the loss will knock one of those teams out of the BCS top 8 and move Tennessee up in the process.

Tennessee will not lose quality points if Georgia loses because Tennessee didn't beat Georgia in the first place.

Dammmmmmmmittttttttttttttttt, that's a lot of CASH, just for whistling Dixie and doing the right thing ... If Georgia agrees
to do it ... would everyone else buy into the scenario ... Would Georgia agree to skip a SEC Championship game? Nahhhhhhhh.

Not positive of this scenario, but..........

The best Georgia could do is defend its Sugar Bowl title.

Georgia will probably be ranked at #5 or #6 in the BCS this week.
    Georgia is currently #6.

    1. If USC gets beat by Oregon State, they will have two losses and drop in the BCS.

    2. If Georgia beats Georgia Tech and then LSU in the SEC CG, they could possibly make it to #2 in the BCS by a slim margin over Michigan who does not play again. Texas, Ohio State and Tennessee all have two losses and have no more games to play either, except for Texas-Texas A&M, and would not be affected much by the outcome of the LSU-Georgia game. LSU would still have only two losses and would probably not drop out of the top ten, so it would result in a quality win for Georgia.

Oklahoma and Georgia in the NC game??

Anything that I am forgetting about in this scenario?

Because if they would not have changed the rule then the "not involved" SEC ADs would have voted for Tenn to be in the SECC game (to give LSU the shot at the MNC, to avoid a re-match in the SECC game, and to assure 2 SEC teams in the BCS since Tenn may drop out of the top 8). By the rules that were in place when the season started, Tennessee would probably be headed to the SECC game. Now they have zero chance.
