    Still searching for 'truth squad'

Unable to document her claims that a "Republican truth squad" has run negative ads about her in the governor's race, Democrat Kathleen Blanco said Tuesday that she is confused about who's running the commercials. "There are so many parties that are running ads now," Blanco said. "You know, it's gotten very confusing." Blanco originally accused GOP candidate Bobby Jindal of joining with a "Republican truth squad" in running negative TV commercials. She later said she had not seen the ads herself and that she was using the term to refer to all third-party groups running ads. On Tuesday, she accused the Republican Governor's Association of financing ads against her. Blanco again provided no evidence of such an ad, but her campaign distributed a flier from the state Republican Party that accuses Blanco of "mud-slinging" and of being "tied to the failed political machine of the past." Republican Governor's Association Executive Director Ed Tobin insisted that two campaign commercials that the group is running on Jindal's behalf have a positive tone. "She's mistaken or has been misinformed," Tobin said. Jindal held a news conference to rebut Blanco's claims. "You can't just make things up and say anything in order to try to win an election," Jindal said. "This is precisely the kind of thing that makes people cynical about politics and that turns them off."

As Gerry DiNardon't once said after the 1996 season in response to a fan's idea that he should in fact run for Louisiana's highest elected office...

"I'd welcome a job that was less political..."
