Why is it that if Pitt beats Miami today, they will be tied with W. Virginia as Big East champs with W. Virginia having the tie break, However, Pitt would represent the Big East in a BCS bowl? I guess they send the highest rated BCS team if there is a tie but it seems WV gets screwed in the whole deal. LSU went from the SEC in 2001 as not the highest BCS ranked team in the conference and represented more than well.
Big East Tie Breaker http://www.bigeast.org/sports/football/releases/10-29-01.asp It seems that the Big East uses the same rule as the SEC If Team A is not the highest ranked, and is ranked more than five spots below the highest ranked team in the mini-conference - Team A is eliminated from consideration. Subsequently, :geaux:
If the champion of the big east is more than 5 spots behind any other big east team in the bcs rankings the bcs has the option of taking the league champion or the team ahead of them in the BCS. WVU crushed Pitt so they will be the outright big east champs if pitt wins tonight, but the BCS won't necessarily have to take them because the win over miami will boost their bcs ranking.
But if Pitt beats Miami it will be a two-way tie between Pitt and WVU. The head-to-head winner should get the bid regardless.
