It started with ex-Buckeye Herbstreit. And it continues with the Detroit Free Press. And now ex-Buckeyes LB Chris Spielman throws in his two cents about how Miles wants Michigan so badly but just can't figure out how to get there and not look like a liar. Note this tard says Miles cried about Michigan in his pre-Arkansas press conference. No he didn't! He cried about LSU, dumb ass! http://freepress.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071212/SPORTS06/312120009/1054 Skip Bertman was right about the arrogance of these Midwesterners who assume Michigan is the best job in the world. Fact is, LSU is the better program and has been since the turn of the century. I want LSU to CRUSH Ohio State. I want Florida to DEMOLISH Michigan. I want Tennessee to THROTTLE Wisconsin. I can't help despising the Big 10. I had little respect for them in the first place. But this Miles crap makes me hate. :tigereye:
It is what it is. Just ex-Buckeyes trying to create a distraction. I think the team has enough leadership and common sense not to take that bait.
Willful ignorance is a truly pathetic thing. It truly disgusts me to see people ignore facts that contradict their baseless opinion... "His quote was, “I will be the coach at LSU next season.” Well, when that? Next season? Well, OK, I don’t know if he said next season. I don’t know."
i hear ya TC im so sick of this crap i think the sec will make a statement this year in the bowls.... well except for bama i dont know who they play but im sure they will lose.
Just a couple of thoughts on that travesty...Spielman:"Well, I want to believe him, but his actions tell me different, correct? I mean, if he was completely out of it, why would he have a conversation with the president and the athletic director?...You’re Michigan. You have access to every coach in the country to get advice on your search and you’re telling me that you don’t have enough good people in your system and in college football that you can’t get advice, that you have to get advice from Les Miles? Come on." Uhh, maybe you ask Les Miles for advice because 1. he is an alumni and wants to see them do well, and 2. he's the head coach of a team about to play for the national championship, and carries a certain level of expertise on the subject. DFP:"How does LSU and Michigan keep this thing under wraps for three weeks when you’ve got (media) trying to unearth this story?"Trying to unearth the story, or trying to create one? Big difference. Spielman:"if I’m Les, I’d say, “LSU, I’m going to give you everything that’s in my power.... Wouldn’t that be refreshing?" And wouldn't it be refreshing if these idiots would actually believe what someone says? I guess we have Saban and Petrino to thank for creating the climate where no only means no until someone talks me into saying yes. Spielman:"I don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist here, but…"...I'll be glad to keep feeding the conspiracy with my uninformed opinions. Reading the entire article, I can only hope the printed version is not a word-for-word transcript of the interview. If it is, it doesn't say much for a tOSU degree (assuming Spielman graduated). Complete sentences seem to challenge him much more than did tackling Big 10 running backs.
This isn't really a convincing answer. What advice does he have that others cannot provide? The last thing Miles/LSU needs is more drama about him leaving. I would utter a similar sentiment about UM, if indeed they are moving forward beyond Miles as a candidate, then I can't imagine them re-inserting the drama themselves just for a quick brain-picking session. The UM alumni, boosters & fanbase are at a breaking point, and may meltdown if someone like Hoke is hired instead of Miles. This is very well known, and has been since the CCG saturday fiasco. You're telling me they are going to re-open pandora's box just for a chitchat with ole les? Sorry, I don't buy that. It seems feasible to me that he talked to UM, and has decided to stay. Didn't the 'next season' quote come out after these phone conversations? Everything before that was next year, which is vague enough to support both outcomes.
Wrong. In a one on one inteview at the SECCG Les was asked if he would be the coach at LSU next season and the answer was "absolutely". In the press conference after the game he was asked if there was any "wiggle room" and he said "no". Fact is, nothing will convience people that someone might just want to stay at LSU instead of going to UM. Fact is, Les does - as he said in the press conference after the game - "I'm home". ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule:
My main question still stands, but I'll split it into two parts. 1) How much does Les' bring to the advice table that no one else can? 2) Is that unique contribution truly worth the PR drama for both sides (if indeed talks have long since concluded)? I had not heard that. Was this a TV interview or something? edit: detnews "Miles made clearer his intentions during a pre-game interview with CBS, which aired the game. "I will be the LSU coach next year, absolutely," he said. " Other links: AOL Sports
He made the statement in an interview with a lady reporter from CBS just before the game. The quote form the detnews is wrong. Les reaffirmed this in his press release yesterday when he said he would be the coach at LSU for the 2008 season (probably trying to directly address some of the BS coming from folks who doubt his word). Now if you will excuse me, I have some work to finish up - have a great day.
