Can anyone please give me what they know as the best route to Auburn from the 10-12 split in baton rouge.
The quickest way usually is to take I-12 to Slidell and it will merge into I-10. Then take I-10 all the way to Mobile than get on I-65 North to Montgomery. Once you get to Montgomery you will take I-85 North to Atlanta. When you get to Auburn the first exit that will take you to Auburn University I think is Rice Road. If you don't take that exit the next one is about 8 miles down the road. They are currently doing construction at that exit. Be aware that I-10 had a bridge washed out I think in the Pensacola area and I have heard the tunnel in Mobile might be out. Not very sure. Also, make sure you have enough gas in Mobile to get to Montgomery because there ain't crap between the two cities. If this is the case you will have to take I-59 North at Slidell and it will turn into I-20/I-59 at Meridian. This will take you to B'ham. Get onto I-459 at mile marker 106. Take I-459 until you reach I-65 south to Montgomery and the rest is the same as above from their on. If I-65 south has traffic than U.S. Hwy 280 is about 5 miles past the I-65 exit. Good luck and be safe driving up here if you have to. Geaux Tigers and kick the Sh$t out of Auburn and Ears. LSUDAN
Go west bound on I-10 at the 10/110 split take the 110 to the Harding exit. Go across Harding onto Veterans Memorial Drive Follow signs to departing flights.
12-55North-20East---------------->ALL THE WAY ... THE SAFEST WAY 12-59North-20East---------------->59 saw high winds ... probably OK Don't even think about Mobile Check Alabama State police site for road closings ... stop for coffee and talk to the truckers ... they'll give you a heads up ... good luck
I-12 then I-10 may still be backed up when you leave.....people returning to Slidell/NO and to Mobile/Pensacola. Try this instead: Take I-12 or Hwy 190 West to I-55, then north to I-20. East on I-20 to Meridian (near the Miss-Alabama line). Then take the cut-off to old Hwy 80 to Montgomery. The debris should be cleared off Hwy 80 and it is easily detoured. Then take I-65/I-85 into Auburn. Leave with a full tank. Gas up often enough so as to get to Auburn with at least a half tank. Conditions are improving rapidly in Central Alabama, so gas may not be an issue by the time you need it. Good Luck
All of this is good info if you take the I-85 from Montgomery route, but the first exit that you are looking for is Wire Road (not Rice). And you definitely want to take that exit because the one after that has major construction and I'm not even certain that it's open. If it is it will be a mess to get through. One other thing...there are a couple of exits between Mobile and Montgomery for restroom breaks and fuel but they are spaced out a good bit. Have a safe trip.
