Forgive me if there is another post just like this one. If so, please delete this. My mom's b-day was this past Sunday, and I had to work while everyone else took her out to dinner. I told her that I would take her out this week, and I am look around for good places to eat. Without doing a thread search and trying to skim through dozens of threads, I was wondering if you guys could help me out because I don't eat out much. If you can, please post what you think are the best restaurants (with a street or other easily identifiable landmark/location) of Baton Rouge and surrounding cities as follows: Best of Baton Rouge and surrounding cities Fast Food: Pizza: Burger: Seafood/Cajun: Poboys: Mexican: Steak: BBQ: Soul Food: Asian/Sushi: Italian: Greek and Lebanese: Indian: Buffet: Other: Knowing how the TFers are, I figured that this could be done with great care and precision. :hihi: Instead of scouring the database, I think it would be good to have an entire thread-style restaurant "directory."
Just Baton Rouge Fast Food: Philly Cheesesteak Connection (Jefferson near Essen) Pizza: Fleur de lis (Government) Seafood/Cajun: Juban's (Perkins/Acadian Shopping Center) Mexican: La Caretta (Government) Steak: Maison Lacour (S. Harrells Fairway) Soul Food: That place across from the LSU Music Building Asian/Sushi: Tokyo Cafe by far (Shop Center on corner of Perkins and Bluebonnet) Italian: Digiulio Brothers (Next to George's Southside) Greek and Lebanese: Roman's (We only have 3 choices)
Best of Baton Rouge and surrounding cities Fast Food: Taco Bell, Popeye's (chain) Pizza: Papa Murphy's (chain, but have to cook at home), Pizza Hut Burger: Outback (HWY 30, Jones Creek), George's (Oneal by Rave), Bennigan's (Siegen?, Big Irish is pretty good) Seafood/Cajun: Drusilla Seafood, La Grange's (Range in Denham past Wal-Mart but before Antique District, awesome all you can eat shrimp or catfish for $12.99) Poboys: Sherwood Poboys (447 in Walker and Sherwood) Sub/Sandwich: Quizno's, Jason's Deli Mexican: Pancho's (Metaire, lol), El Rancho (Corner of Range and Magnolia Rd. in Denham) Steak: Longhorn (Range, next to Bass Pro Shop) BBQ: Fire House BBQ (Off of Range just before 1019 in Watson, quite possibly THE best BBQ in the area and great sauce) Soul Food: Don't know Asian/Sushi: Don't know Italian: Ruffino's (Highland near Healing Place) Greek and Lebanese: Albasha's (Highland in Prarieville), Arzi's (Range and Florida) Indian: Don't know Buffet: Golden Corral, Sicily's (Seigen) Other: I don't eat out much, but I'm sure there are better.

Fast Food: Izzo's Illegal Burritos or Chicago Al's Pizza: Fleur-De-Lis Burger: George's Seafood: Parrian's Cajun: Brunet's (I hear, but I'd just as soon drive over to Prejean's) Poboys: Pocorello's unless you're looking for seafood then Poor Boy Lloyd's or Demsey's is where I go. Mexican: La Carreta or Superior, depending if I want quiet or noise. Steak: Ruth's Chris BBQ: Nothing worth mentioning in Baton Rouge unless you find some dude in a trailer on the side of the road. Soul Food: Asian/Sushi: Waka House Italian: Monjuni's Greek and Lebanese: ????? Indian: ????? Buffet: Texas De Brazil. Not technically a buffet, but all you can eat. Other: Mason's Grill or Louie's Cafe (Breakfast) Best Restaurant: Juban's I can't emphasize Juban's enough. Manur's is good as well, but if I have one opportunity to impress or pick one place in Baton Rouge to have a great meal it's Juban's by a longshot. They like to brag about their gumbo, but I have tasted much better. I'm told by a friend that the best restaurant in town for fine dining is Brandt's Maissionette on Government. A lot of good eating on Government Street (Fluer de Lis, Doe's, Monjuni's @ Jefferson, Chinese Take-out place, Brandt's, Calandro's Supermarket with a fantastic bakery and booze section, Used to be the only decent BBQ place in town, etc.). Were it not for the crappy neighborhood, I could live there and be quite happy.
Taste of Baton Rouge.(last 3 years) Best Overall Restaurant Best Seafood Restaurant. Best of 225 2nd Best cajun 2nd Best Grilled Fish or Seafood 2nd Best Seafood Louisiana Lagniappe Restaurant.com
Baton Rouge is a pretty poor restaurant town. There are a bunch of decent places, but there is only one place that I reccomend when folks come in from out of town and that is Bistro Byronz. Everything else ranges from decent to terrible. Fast Food: I agree with the guy that said Philly Connection Pizza: Shlitz and Giggles Burger: Bistro Byronz (also best overall in my opinion) Seafood/Cajun: None worth mentioning. Poboys: Rocco's is the closest to being good. Mexican: La Carreta Steak: Doe's BBQ: No good BBQ in BR. Soul Food: none that I know of since Silver Moon closed. Beluez is pretty decent, but is kind of clean to be a soul food joint. Asian/Sushi: Don't know. Italian: I guess Pinetta's. Greek and Lebanese: Atcha Indian: None that is any good. Buffet: Crawford's II Other: 333 Bistro
You obviously have never been to Fleur de Lis For some reason the smaller size burgers are much better tasting than the larger size. If I am hungry enough for a big one I order two of the smaller size. I love DiGuilio Brothers but its been so long since I have eaten at Gino's I forgot how good they were. I went to the Izzo's on Burbank when they first opened. The steak burrito was so full of fat and gristle that I couldn't eat it at all. I have never been back and will never eat at an Izzo's again.
Is Pinetta's still open? I thought that place closed years ago. Burgers - Riverside Patty Steak - Ruth's Chris Fast Food - No such thing as good fast food Poboys - The meatball poboys at Pocorella's Creole - Juban's Mexican - El Patio Oysters - Hymel's on River Road in St. James Parish Crawfish - also Hymel's Seafood Buffet - Crawford's II Etouffe - Tie between Mike Anderson's and The Chimes Seafood Gumbo - City Cafe Pizza - Fleur de Lis Italian - Gino's BBQ - TJ Ribs Greek & Lebanese - I don't eat that stuff Sushi - Any place that sells fresh live bait Indian - India's It is also the worst since there are no other Indian places in BR
Fast Food: Raising Cane's Pizza: DeAngelo's (several locations in the area) Burger: Times Grill (Jones Creek/Coursey) or George's (George O'Neal Rd) Seafood/Cajun: Mike Andersons (Lee Dr), Middendorf's (Hwy 51, south of Ponchatoula) Poboys: Po-Boy Express (Cedarcrest or South Range in Denham Springs) Mexican: Superior Grill Steak: Ruth's Chris or Lonestar BBQ: CouYons (Burbank/Gardere) Soul Food: Dorothy's Soul Food kitchen (Gardere Lane, if it's still open) Asian/Sushi: Italian: Kiva's (Bocage shopping center) Greek and Lebanese: Natalie's, it's a small deli inside the convenience store located at the corner of Perkins Rd/Oakdale Drive, best chicken shawarma in Baton Rouge Indian: Buffet: Fried Chicken: Frickin Chickin (Burbank near Gardere)-best fried chicken in Baton Rouge when you get it fresh, for some reason it's just not as good at room temp as Popeyes (don't laugh, this is important to some people) Other:
