Right behind the Tigerland bars there is a hole-in-the-wall convenience store called Corey's (may have changed now) but it is right next to the Pizza Hut in that strip. They have, undoubtedly, the best gyro I have ever tasted. I have tried many gyros in Texas searching for one that can compare. In fact, when I came in to town for the Vandy game, my buddy and I made a specific stop just for a gyro to make sure it was still the king...it was indeed. For $8 you get a loaded gyro (the meat is falling off the pita it is so loaded) with a huge side of fries.
baton rouge, as far as i can tell, is the tasty gyro capital of the world. and i have had gyros in a few different places.
Atcha Bakery on Nicholson makes the best gyro and shawarma, that I know. They make sure the meat is browned nicely. Some places just slice it off warm and cooked, but prematurely.
Nope. The flavor is better when its roasted properly, it's the whole idea of a rotisserie, you know. If you say so, Mary. You're the expert on consuming raw meat. Is the fleet in?
foreigners do not seem to mind the american pronunciation jai-row. but i think they say yee-ro with a very slightly rolled r like the r in the spanish "mira"
Atcha is the best in BR, but the best I ever had was from a place called Grecian Gyro in Hapeville, GA. It is near the Atlanta airport in a not so pleasant neighborhood, but at lunch the line is around the block.
