Did we ever get a concensus on what the best burger in BR is?? Me and a couple of guys from work do and burger lunch / training session once a month. The past two months we've hit Brew Bachers and Chee Burger Chee Burger. Can I get some nominations??
I don't know about their hamburgers at Brewbachers, but I used to kill myself eating their grilled chicken sandwich with fries. It never got old. I gotta believe that if you ate at Brewbachers every day for a solid year, that you would be guaranteed to be dead from a heart attack.
There won't be a consensus about burgers on this forum. Everybody has different tastes about what a great burger is. I haven't been to Cheeburger but I don't care much for Brewbachers burgers. When I started the orginal best burger thread I mentioned a ratty little hamburger stand in Prairieville on Airline Highway called Burger Delite. I still think they are the best followed by Riverside Patty.
Riverside Patty is pretty good.....just takes 3 days or so to digest the burger. I want to try the new Backyard Burgers that just opened up.
Louies Cafe, since 1941. Fresh meat, grilled onions, and real cheese, prepared before your eyes. A big Louies cheeseburger with hash browns is a damn fine meal.
I love Louie's burgers but the last time I went there it was on a Sunday afternoon when the place wasn't at all crowded and it still took them 45 minutes to cook my burger. The when we got ready to leave it took another 10 minutes to get somebody to take our money for the food. I could understand that if it had been 2 AM when the bars close.
Go talk to Jimmy, who has owned Louies since 1979. Nice guy. Let him know about a problem and he'll get on it. I wouldn't have given that advice if Louie was still alive. To quote the original Louie Sisk (1905-1979): "This here ain't a fast food joint. You can go poison yourself down at McDonalds if you're in some kind of a damn hurry!" I saw Louie throw people out of the the old, 11-stool Louie's on Chimes Street if they complained about anything. There was always somebody else hanging around waiting for a place to sit down. Louie was like John Wayne and Georgia Pacific toilet paper--rough, tough, and wouldn't take sh!t off nobody.
I left my house at 3 AM this morning and went to Louie's. Had a Louieburger and it was so good I had to order another one. Ate both and was back home by 4 AM.
Georges and Ivors should be included on any burger tour of Baton Rouge. Both are in the Perkins Road overpass area. The Chimes makes a decent burger as does Dearmans Drug Store. :thumb:
Georges burgers are pretty good but a few years ago they were great. I have no idea why they aren't as good as they used to be. The burger at Georges Southside on Highland Road are not as good as the ones on Perkins. I asked Mike, the manager of Georges Southside why and he said that on Perkins they clean the grill twice a week and on Highland they clean the grill every night so that they don't have as much old grease to flare up and add flavor to the burgers. They do have a very good ribeye and cheese sandwich at Southside.
