http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps.../20070309/SPORTS0202/70309018/1031/SPORTS0301 Is there really a connection between these two incidents or is the media trying to make something out of nothing? IMO, Skip handled the situation the right way with the circumstances he was put under. I am sure there is more to the story we dont know about but what else could he have done.
I look at this as the BOS making sure nothing strange comes out about this in the next month or so that could necessitate Skip's removal. I'm sure he acted properly but I don't disagree with the move given the circumstances of how this all came out.
I'm not sure we have enough info to know if he handled it well. I do wonder why Skip initially allowed Pokey to coach until the end of the season. Knowing what we know now, I can't understand how he would let her stay knowing the improper conduct with a player. I'd like to know if someone forced Skip to cut her loose immediately or if he just changed his mind overnight. This whole thing is just strange.
there is also a chance that the whole situation developed so fast skip did what he could do when he could do it. that he didn't have the evidence that was needed to ask for an immediate resignation until thursday. but it is all speculation. none of us know what really happened. and as far as does this have anything to do with his contract extension, i would think that it would have to be looked at just because it happened on his watch. that is just being prudent, even if he did do everything right.
True. And we'll probably never know the real story, especially if we're waiting for the BR media to give us the story. What little we know is compliments of New Orleans media and ESPN. But I do think the BOS wants to know what happened before they extend Skip's contract.
To clear it up, the two situations had nothing to do with each other. The contracts that coaches and athletic adminstrators sign are sometimes very complex. The issue was brought up because football season is over, recruiting is over and a writer needed a story.
I suspect the board was all too happy to accept the delay based on the Chapman situation, but that the delay would have probably happened anyway. The one thing we do not know is the timeline. I suspect it happened this way: 1) the rumors get to Skip, 2) Skip talks to Pokey in a preliminary way to see if he can avoid an investigation (bosses do this all the time--in my line of business it's called the "knock it off call"), 3) Pokey thinks about it, realizes she will catch a lot of heat if an investigation actually occurs and decides to resign, and 4) The announcement is made with an agreement by both parties to keep the reason quiet. Skip's performance in the matter depends on when he heard the rumors. If that was Monday of last week, he did everything right. If it was mid-January, he blew it. Hard to say from this standpoint, but I suspect the board will eventually get around to asking. GEAUX TIGERS
