...if they could talk to Saban from the Falcolns organization. Granted they don't have to but it is courtesy and I don't believe the Falcolns would circumvent that courtesy. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1684922
Remember, when we hired Saban, Saban didn't talk with LSU directly until the last minute. Someone that Emmertt was looking at just happened to have the same gent as Saban (Jimmy Sexton). And, Sexton let Emmertt know that Saban was "in play". And, LSU spoke with Sexton prior to getting permision to speak with Saban. So, just because the Falcons aren't talking to Saban doesn't mean that they aren't speaking with Sexton.
LSUBud....Right on target... But, I'm telling you, Saban's no Dan Reeves. Reeves has won a Super Bowl. Saban is playing for his first collegiate national championship. Dan Reeves has been to the playoffs at every head coaching stop. Nick Saban has...well, he's been a DC in the NFL! Arthur Blank-Saban's boss if he were hired, is now known for firing the guy that drafted Vick, and built a team that went to Green Bay on the FROZEN TUNDRA and beat the Packers and what is widely held as the best quarterback of the modern era in a somewhat convincing fashion. Reeves put together a team that had a SECOND YEAR quarterback, and a FIRST YEAR STARTER, and not a lot of receiving talent that won a playoff game. Hell, Haslett did that with a first time starter, and he won coach of the year, and Mueller won NFL Executive of the Year. Reeves does that, and the next year, his star player-THROUGH NO FAULT OF HIS OWN-breaks his leg and misses what, 10 games? His team's testicles shrink up like they jumped into a 40 degree Fahrenheit pool...They screw the pooch and write off the season. Does Reeves have control of these guy's senses of pride? Of course not. He has no more control of their pride than he did over Vick's foot. The bottom line is their owner is an absolute dolt. He fired the NFL's 6th all time winningest coach, a SUPER BOWL WINNING coach, and a guy that built a playoff WINNER, for nothing else other than the fact that his star player broke his leg. Does Saban want to coach there? Well, I'm guessing he might not mind, as long as he tied an insurance policy to Vick's health. Something like, "If Mike plays less than 90% of the snaps, I get a multimillion dollar buyout." or something to that effect. Otherwise, if he can FIRE Dan Reeves for nothing, why would anyone else feel stable in the position?
TE, no doubt that Reeves is a great coach but he's NEVER won the SuperBowl. Maybe Saban can win the big one in a couple weeks.
Makes no difference whether he talked to him or not, if he wanted to coach in the pros, he would be gone. If he likes what he is doing and wants to coach college players at LSU, they could talk to him until they were blue in the face and it would make no difference. Everything he does, everything his family is doing, and everything he says indicates he is happy right where he is. On the other hand, Nothing indicates he is not satisfied with his job. And before it is thrown up here, because he does persons he has professional relationships with the courtesy of returning phone calls, or visiting with them if they request it instead of rudely turning them down flat does not mean he is interested in a job they might be interested in him taking. This is all wasted cyber-ink and bandwidth, his focus is on beating Okie and bringing in another No. 1 in the country recruiting class. Skip and Emmert are going to give him as long term a contract as the law will allow at over $2.5 million a year after the season, come what may, and whatever else he wants, he will get as well. "Lets move on, Got it?"
Concerning Saban and the NFL please read my Signature. There's so much evidence to the contrary of Nick going to the NFL anytime soon. He's been tipping his hat for some time now.
Re: Re: Bertman says no one has asked... LSU from what I heard never really got permission from MSU to speak to Saban. As you said, it was all done by his agent. Nick told MSU he had this offer and gave MSU a chance to match it or come close. This getting permission is just a formality in many cases. If you want to be nice you "ask for permission". Unless you have a specific clause in your contract you don't need permission to talk to anyone about getting a new job. In most cases asking for permission is the last step in getting a coach and not the first.
The talking heads on TV seem to think that Lovie Smith, a coach with the Rams, is new Atlanta GM McKay's choice for head coach of the Falcons anyway. I guess we will have to go through this again with the Giants and perhaps even the Saints.
